The Formulation Technician position is a hands-on role responsible for supporting formulation development, optimisation, and quality control activities. The role requires a high level of technical competence and independence, working closely with the Formulation Chemists and broader Product Development team.
The successful candidate will take ownership of formulation trials, laboratory testing, data integrity, and quality standards, while also providing guidance and technical support to junior laboratory staff. This position is suited to an individual seeking to grow within a formulation- and manufacturing-focused environment within a dynamic and innovative agricultural company.
Main Responsibilities
Support the team of Formulation Chemists and the Product Development function in executing projects and day-to-day activities.
Contribute to formulation development, optimisation, and stability trials.
Prepare samples in accordance with formulation and testing requirements.
Execute advanced laboratory tests and analyses in line with formulation requirements, as well as routine tests based on service requests.
Monitor and control quality standards for formulations, raw materials, and finished products.
Interpret results, identify deviations, and implement corrective actions where required.
Maintain accurate laboratory records, data, and administrative documentation.
Conduct quality control on laboratory data and reports.
Investigate formulation-related queries, complaints, and product performance issues.
Support production activities when required, including formulation troubleshooting and scale-up support.
Contribute to new product development and continuous improvement initiatives within Product Development.
Manage laboratory inventory related to formulation and product development activities.
Ensure calibration, maintenance, and compliance of laboratory equipment.
Provide guidance and technical support to General Laboratory Assistants where required.
Perform laboratory demonstrations for clients when necessary.
Ensure strict adherence to laboratory safety, housekeeping, and compliance standards.
Ad hoc or other related duties as assigned.

Thorough knowledge of laboratory procedures, quality systems, and safety regulations
Excellent attention to detail with a strong focus on data accuracy and integrity
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within cross-functional teams
Proficient in the use of laboratory techniques, analytical methods, and equipment
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills
Adaptable and flexible in dynamic laboratory and product development environments
Comfortable performing both routine and non-routine laboratory analyses
Excellent organisational, time management, and prioritisation skills
Ability to maintain high standards under pressure
Effective communication and technical reporting skills
Responsible, self-motivated, and committed to continuous improvement
Comfortable receiving and acting on instructions from multiple stakeholders
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
Diploma or Degree in Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, or a related scientific field
Experience
Proven experience in a laboratory environment would be advantageous
Other specific requirements
Full professional proficiency in Afrikaans and English (speaking and writing)
Full proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Medically fit to do manual labour when necessary
Own transport
