Department Overview

Engineers in the FM Radio team are responsible for ensuring in excess of 380 tunnel and indoor repeater solutions and the associated equipment are operating at the required level to ensure reliable communications for the Norwegian Public Safety services.

Reliable communications for end users is dependent upon the successful integration of tunnel and indoor repeater solutions and the Tetra network.

Specialised skills and an aptitude for complicated fault investigation in addition to the ability to transfer knowledge and brief management are key to the success of this role.

Confident customer facing skills are also critical, reassuring end users that MSI have the right competencies to support them when needed most.

Job Description

Primary Purpose of the Position:

The primary role of the FM Radio department is to ensure that all RF network elements are operating effectively and investigate and resolve any issues that arise to jeopardize this.

The nature of this task requires significant levels of co-operation with internal and external resources and the role has a high profile with customer counterparts.

Engineers are to take ownership and progress alarm tickets and fault reports to resolution, liaising with other resources as and when required.

Knowledge transfer and recommendations to improve remote analysis by other members of Operations is expected.

MAIN DUTIES OF THE POSITION:

• Provide 2nd Line technical support to the NOC relating to alarms and customer received reports of poor coverage.
• Work alongside FM Radio resources when required to resolve issues and ensure network is optimized effectively.
• Provide input into the creation of knowledge documents and operational procedures to ensure that the end users receive optimal service.
• Ensure owned tickets are updated regularly.
• Represent MSI in a technical capacity when interfacing with customers.
• Represent Operations in internal discussions relating to fault investigation/network optimization.
• Provide informal training and support to resources in the NOC.
• Assist the NOC with alarm identification, prioritization and clean up.
• Provide support to FLM Engineers in diagnosis and rectification of faults.
• Carry out remote analysis of logs provided and make recommendations where appropriate.
• Own and drive enhanced/escalated faults within MSI and towards other vendors (Commscope/IOG etc).
• Strive to ensure that all fault cases are handled within defined SLAs.
• Liaise closely with DNK counterparts ensuring common understanding relating to procedures etc.
• Ensure provided tools are utilized to best effect to provide the greatest support in fault resolution and follow up with tool provider if issues are identified.
• Provide timely and constructive feedback to NOC personnel regarding case handling, notes, analysis etc and notify NOC and Support Manager if continual feedback shows no improvement.
• Provide input to Support resources in the creation of proactive scripts and be prepared to analyse captured data.
• In conjunction with NOC staff, provide feedback to system owners of support tools suggesting operational improvements in said tools.
• Provide Operations management with updates, recommendations etc as and when required.
• Any other tasks requested by Operations Management.
• Be prepared to travel within Norway at short notice and remain away from home for a number of days.
• Operate necessary support equipment competently.
• Collaborate, exchange information and support Tunnel RO team with technical expertise.
• Carry out optimisation activity upon receipt from subcontractor/RO team prior to acceptance into Operations and delivery to DNK.
• Maintain repeater IP overview until arrival of CMDB.
• Integration of new repeaters into monitoring tools.

Technically:

Education:  High School degree

Job Experience: 5+ years of relevant experience

Technical Skills: Yes

Management Experience: No

IT Experience: Relevant Tools experience

Language Skills: Fluent in English and Norwegian, written and spoken

Others: Driving Licence.

Security clearance and authorisation:

Security clearance at KONFIDENSIELT (CONFIDENTIAL) level before accession.
