Job Description
Support Staff (Floater) – Early Childhood Program
At Over the Rainbow Learning Center, we don’t “babysit.” We build foundations. We are a play-based early childhood program serving children 6 weeks to 5 years old, grounded in the CTELDS framework. Our classrooms are structured, engaging, and intentionally designed to support social-emotional, cognitive, physical, and language development.
We are looking for a reliable, professional floater who can step into any classroom and contribute immediately—with confidence, care, and strong classroom presence.
This is a role for someone who takes pride in their work, shows up consistently, and understands the impact a great teacher has on a child’s life.
What You’ll Do
This role requires flexibility, awareness, and professionalism at all times. You will:
Support multiple classrooms while maintaining consistent expectations and structure
Actively engage with children throughout the day (not standing on the sidelines)
Help maintain safe, organized, and fully functioning classrooms
Follow all health, safety, and supervision protocols without exception
Assist with daily routines, including diapering, meals, naps, and transitions
Build positive, respectful relationships with children, families, and staff
Support curriculum implementation aligned with CTELDS
Maintain accurate communication using tools like Brightwheel
Uphold all center policies, procedures, and licensing requirements
What Sets Our Team Apart
We operate with clear standards and strong expectations:
Attendance and reliability are non-negotiable
Professionalism is expected in how you speak, act, and show up daily
Classrooms are intentional, structured, and engaging—not chaotic
We believe in growth, accountability, and continuous improvement
You Will Thrive Here If You:
Take your role seriously and show up consistently
Have strong classroom management skills and situational awareness
Can confidently step into different classrooms and adapt quickly
Communicate clearly and respectfully with both children and adults
Are proactive—you don’t wait to be told what to do
Genuinely enjoy working with young children and guiding their development
Value being part of a team that holds high standards
This Is NOT For You If:
You struggle with attendance, punctuality, or consistency
You prefer to be on your phone or disengaged during the day
You take a passive approach (“just tell me what to do”)
You have difficulty receiving feedback or being held accountable
You are not comfortable managing behavior or maintaining structure
You view this as “just a job” rather than a professional role
Requirements
High School Diploma or equivalent (required)
Experience working with children in a group setting (preferred)
CPR/First Aid (or willingness to obtain)
Ability to meet physical demands of the role (lifting, standing, active movement)
Must pass CT background check
Physical & Work Expectations
This is an active, hands-on role. You will:
Lift, carry, and actively engage with children throughout the day
Be on your feet, kneeling, bending, and moving frequently
Work in a fast-paced environment with noise and constant interaction
Maintain supervision and awareness at all times
Why Join Over the Rainbow
A structured, professional environment with clear expectations
A program rooted in play, development, and purpose
A team that values reliability, accountability, and respect
Opportunities for growth and professional development
Our Core Values
Excellence – We hold high standards in everything we do
