Flight Performance Engineering Intern, AI (Summer 2026)

Flight Performance Engineering Intern (AI) - El Segundo, CA

The Flight Performance Intern will contribute to the development and analysis of flight performance models for Skyryse's innovative aircraft. This role offers the opportunity to work with cutting-edge AI technologies to optimize flight characteristics and safety. You will collaborate with experienced engineers to collect and analyze vehicle data from literature and flight test, develop simulation tools, and contribute to the validation of flight control systems.

This internship is based in our El Segundo office. The Summer Intern Program will run for 12 weeks starting in May / June depending on your academic calendar.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Develop, set up, and perform simulations and analyses of aircraft flight performance for current and next generation of SkyOS enabled aircraft.

• Work with cross-functional teams to integrate first principles or AI/ML models into flight performance predictions and optimizations.

• Capture key performance metrics such hinge forces, actuator loads, range, etc.

• Generate documentation of flight performance analysis and model development.

• Support in the analysis of flight data and the identification of performance trends.

• Draft & Design data visualizations and reports using Python, MATLAB, or similar tools.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Currently enrolled in a university pursuing your Bachelors or Masters in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.

• Graduating between December 2026 & June 2027

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience with flight dynamics and aircraft performance modeling.

• Ability to create simple equations of motion models for fixed-wing and rotary wing aircraft

• Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, or other programming languages for data analysis and scientific computing.

• Familiarity with AI/Machine Learning concepts and their application in engineering.

• Experience with simulation tools (e.g., Simulink, X-Plane, or similar).

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

• Pilot experience a bonus
