Position Overview
The Mechanic plays a vital role in maintaining and improving City vehicles and equipment. Responsibilities include performing preventative maintenance on a wide variety of automotive and construction equipment, repairs, snow removal operations, and more. The role requires operating specialized equipment and developing new skills to support the department’s progressive goals.

Key Responsibilities
Perform snow removal and respond to after-hours emergencies (on-call rotation)
Repairs and overhauls to light and heavy-duty city cars, trucks, and equipment
Working knowledge of gasoline and diesel motors, backhoes, tractors, lawnmowers, skid steers, and more
Inspections and replacements of various vehicles and equipment parts, including but not limited to tires, brakes, gauges, sensors, transmissions, etc.
Ordering parts and maintaining a stocked inventory
Maintaining accurate records and invoicing for all work performed
Service calls on an as-needed basis
Troubleshoot and resolve maintenance issues
Safely use hand and power tools (e.g., impacts, wrenches, lifts, tire balancers, etc.)
Education & Experience Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent
Demonstrated knowledge of safe work practices
Ability to acquire and maintain ASE Certifications
Special Requirements
Valid Driver’s License with insurability to operate City vehicles
Ability to obtain a Class A CDL within 6 months of employment

Physical Demands & Work Environment
Perform heavy manual labor for extended periods in indoor and outdoor settings
Work in adverse weather conditions, including rain, snow, extreme heat, and cold
Navigate confined spaces, elevated areas, and active construction zones
Operate heavy equipment and vehicles safely during both day and night shifts
Maintain visual acuity to identify hazards and read documentation
May be exposed to loud noises, dust, fumes, chemicals, and other occupational hazards
Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required
