Fleet Maintenance Manager
Premier Service – West Chicago, IL
Premier Service is a family-owned landscape, construction, and snow operations company that has been operating since the late 1980s. We are seeking an experienced Fleet Maintenance Manager to lead our shop operations and oversee the maintenance of our growing fleet of trucks, trailers, and equipment.
This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for keeping our fleet safe, reliable, and ready to support daily field operations.
Responsibilities
Fleet Operations
Manage preventive maintenance schedules for trucks, trailers, mowers, and snow equipment
Ensure fleet availability with minimal downtime
Track mileage, inspections, and service intervals using fleet software
Ensure compliance with DOT, OSHA, and company safety standards
Repairs & Maintenance
Diagnose mechanical issues and coordinate repairs
Oversee in-house mechanics and outside vendors
Maintain detailed repair records and service history
Inventory & Equipment Management
Manage parts, fluids, tools, and shop inventory
Monitor fuel usage and recommend cost-saving improvements
Assist with purchasing and replacement planning for vehicles and equipment
Compliance & Safety
Conduct routine inspections and safety audits
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
Train staff on proper equipment use and safety procedures
Budget & Reporting
Manage fleet maintenance budgets
Track costs, downtime, and fleet performance
Identify opportunities for efficiency improvements
Qualifications
3+ years of fleet or maintenance management experience
Experience in landscaping, construction, trucking, or similar industry preferred
Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, and small engines
Familiarity with DOT regulations and OSHA standards
Experience managing or supervising mechanics
Strong organizational and documentation skills
Proficiency with fleet management software and Microsoft Office
Valid driver's license required (CDL preferred)
Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred
