The Opportunity:
The YMCA of Greater Saint John is a charity offering opportunities for personal growth, community involvement and leadership. The Fitness Coach will play an essential role in development of YMCA of Greater Saint John members in personal learning and growth, including physical and social development.
The Fitness Coach will work directly with the YMCA of Greater Saint John membership as well as community partners to ensure all fitness programming and requirements are completed within operating hours of the Saint John Regional Y. This is a part-time hourly position that reports to the Fitness Floor Supervisor.
Responsibilities:
Plan and carry out all fitness activities within the Saint John Regional Y and off-site locations.
Circulate through the centre, initiating conversation, assisting members with exercise technique, booking appointments for members.
Ensure that all fitness equipment is working properly and accessible for membership use.
Demonstrate and instruct fitness activities and techniques in a proper and safe manner.
Develop innovative and efficient ways to deliver programs based on trends and member feedback.
Instruct groups and individuals in fitness activities and programming.
Maintain a minimum of 80% score on annual performance evaluation of direct program delivery.
Attend to member and client needs and to respond to members concerns in a positive and professional/timely manner.
Provide lifestyle awareness information to those members that are interested in programming within the YMCA.
Monitor fitness activities to ensure safety and provide emergency or first aid assistance when required.
Enforce safety rules and regulations within the Saint John Regional Y, with primary focus on the fitness floor and surrounding area.
Assist with co-ordination of special events as requested.
Schedule activities, keep logs, maintain records and prepare reports for individual personal training sessions and group orientations.
General cleaning of the fitness area will be required of all staff persons. This includes and is not limited to filling towel dispensers, cleaning fitness equipment and ensuring that the fitness floor and clean and well maintained for membership use.
Assist membership by covering all scheduled breaks
Skills and Qualifications:
Current First Aid and CPR/AED Certification
Must hold and maintain Personal Training Certification from Nationally Recognized Source.
Certification in any streams of group fitness will be considered an asset.
Excellent interpersonal, communication and customer service skills
Available to work flexible hours, including mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays
Employment is contingent on having a clean Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search.
