Job Title: Fishing Tool Operator
Reports To: Dispatch / Manager / Wellsite Manager
Employment Type: Salary Full-time
Job Summary:
The Fishing Tool Operator is responsible for performing fishing and milling operations to recover lost, stuck, or damaged equipment from the wellbore. This role involves planning, coordinating, and executing fishing operations on-site, utilizing specialized downhole tools and knowledge of well conditions, drilling practices, and pressure control. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical aptitude, excellent problem-solving skills, and experience in well intervention and downhole fishing operations in drilling, workover, or completions environments.
Key Responsibilities
· Plan and execute fishing, milling, and wellbore cleanout operations using appropriate downhole tools
· Interpret well schematics, job programs, and downhole conditions to select the correct tools and procedures
· Rig up/down equipment at the wellsite in accordance with safety and operational guidelines
· Operate and maintain fishing tools, jars, spears, overshots, magnets, mills, downhole motors and other downhole retrieval devices
· Capability of running various packers, squeeze jobs, retrievable bridge plugs, etc.
· Record job data, create detailed post-job reports and communicate results to clients and dispatch
· Collaborate with rig crew and third-party service providers on location.
· Perform inspections and maintenance on tools before and after jobs to ensure readiness.
· Follow all safety protocols, company policies, and industry standards (e.g., OSHA).
· Troubleshoot on-site issues with creativity and precision to minimize downtime.
· Maintain customer satisfaction (sales calls and forward facing meetings)
Qualifications
· High school diploma or GED
· Minimum 2–5 years of experience as a Fishing Tool Operator
· Knowledge of fishing tool assemblies and downhole applications
· Ability to interpret well schematics, BHA designs and follow SOPs
· Valid Driver’s License and cleaning driving record
· Forklift certification (not required but a plus)
· Experience with hydraulic and motorized fishing tools.
· HSE certifications (e.g., Well Control, Safeland, H2S, etc.)
· Proficient with Windows, Microsoft Office required
· Proficient with Sage (not required but a plus)
Working Conditions
· Field-based role; some travel required to remote drilling or workover sites
· Exposure to high-pressure equipment, heavy machinery, and variable weather
· Physically demanding work; lifting, climbing, and manual tool handling required
· 24/7 availability may be required based on job schedule
