Who we are

Neros is a defense technology company rebuilding America’s drone industrial base. We design and manufacture high-performance unmanned systems that are tested in combat, iterated at startup speed, and built at massive scale. Our team culture is fast, hands-on, and obsessed with closing the gap between design and deployment.

As drones transform the character of warfare, Neros is delivering the systems the West needs to compete on the modern battlefield and deter the adversaries of democracy. We’re hiring engineers, designers, operators, and builders who want to move fast, take on extreme ownership, and get capability into the hands of warfighters in months, not years.

What you will be doing

This is a hands-on, cross-functional, highly technical role that will play a critical part in the development of new products. You will be a key part of Neros' Peripherals Team.

The Firmware Engineer will take product requirements and directly participate in the development of hardware and software to implement the design. The Firmware Engineer will have the opportunity to support product development from concept, through rapid prototyping and into full scale production.

• Work closely with electrical, mechanical and flight teams to translate mission requirements into production features

• Assist in the development of hardware architectures critical to Neros’ peripheral systems

• Develop, modify and own embedded firmware for Neros peripheral systems including headsets, handsets and future products

• Work with FPGA, MCU and/or embedded Linux systems to implement video conversions, corrections, storage, compression, streaming and other functions

You should have the following

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering, Computer Science or a related discipline

• 2+ years of experience

• STM32 family of microcontrollers

• Significant FPGA experience

• Strong C/C++ for embedded systems

• Strong embedded Linux skills

• Strong familiarity with peripherals and interfaces such as SPI, I2C, UARTs, DMA pipelines, ADC/DAC operation, interrupts, etc.

• Comfortable with hardware & software tools - e.g. oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, JTAG/SWD Debuggers, etc.

• Synchronization between clock domains

• Working knowledge of camera interfaces, video formats and compression standards.

• Bare-metal development experience

• Experience using Git including development workflows

• Knowledge or interest in FPV drones or UAVs

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information to executive stakeholders clearly and effectively.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of High speed data streaming between MCU and FPGA

• FPV drone pilot license Part 107

• Soldering, 3D printing, prototyping

• RTOS experience such as FreeRTOS, Zephyr, etc.

• Gstreamer or ffmpeg video pipeline experience

• Specific experience handling video conversions in FPGAs, SoCs or other platforms
