IT8 a leading Engineering company looking for a reliable and safety-oriented Fire Watcher to join our team.
Following project and site safety guidelines, as a Fire Watcher, you will be responsible for supporting fire prevention activities associated with hot work operations during the assembly and installation of automated and industrial systems. This role is an operational support function, focused on monitoring and prevention before, during, and after hot work execution. The main project takes place in South Carolina. Fluency in Spanish is required, as the role involves daily communication with Spanish-speaking field personnel.
Key Responsibilities
Monitor hot work activities such as welding, cutting, grinding, and similar operations.
Verify that basic fire response equipment (fire extinguishers and, when applicable, water supply systems) is available and in proper working condition.
Support preparation of the work area, including removal of combustible materials, placement of fire blankets, installation of protections, and area demarcation.
Maintain continuous vigilance during hot work, remaining alert to sparks, heat transfer, or potential ignition sources.
Remain in the work area after completion of hot work for the required observation period to monitor residual heat.
Assist hot work personnel with basic auxiliary tasks when required (cleaning, tools, preparation).
Immediately report unsafe conditions and stop work if fire risks are identified.
Ensure compliance with site safety procedures, OSHA regulations, and client requirements.
Maintain clear communication with site supervision and safety personnel.
What will you need as a successful Fire Watcher?
High school diploma or equivalent.
Valid OSHA 10 – Construction certification
Completion of general site safety induction, including hot work and fire prevention.
Previous experience in Fire Watch, construction, industrial, or manufacturing environments preferred.
Basic knowledge of mechanical and/or electrical work areas is a plus.
Ability to remain alert, focused, and attentive for extended periods.
Willingness to work on site and adjust schedules as project needs require.
Ability to communicate effectively in English (Spanish is a plus).
