Job Description
Financial Reconciliation Analyst
Type: Fixed-Term Contractor — 6 months
Estimated project duration: 3 months (within 6-month engagement)
Sector: Fintech / Utilities
Reporting to: TBC
About The-Bunch
The-Bunch Limited is a fintech and utilities business focused on delivering clear, fair, and technology-driven solutions for its customers and partners. We move fast, think independently, and expect the same from the people we bring in.
The Role
We are looking for a sharp, self-directed analytical contractor to lead a focused reconciliation project. Over the past two years, a significant volume of payments and transactions between The-Bunch and a third-party company have become tangled and difficult to verify. The two parties hold conflicting records, and we need someone who can cut through the noise, reconstruct a reliable picture from source data, and arrive at a defensible, agreed figure.
This is not a conventional accounting role. We are not looking for someone who simply applies standard bookkeeping processes. We need someone who can think independently, question assumptions, and design their own approach to validating complex financial flows. Familiarity with AI tools to accelerate this work is a genuine advantage.
Key Responsibilities
Independently investigate two years of transactional data to establish a clear, accurate record of payments between The-Bunch and the third party.
Identify discrepancies, cross-payments, offsets, and anomalies across both parties' records.
Design and apply a structured methodology to reconcile conflicting figures, documenting the approach clearly.
Engage with counterparty representatives to challenge, validate, and ultimately agree a final reconciled position.
Produce clear, well-structured outputs — working files, a reconciliation log, and a summary report — suitable for internal and external review.
Flag any patterns or systemic issues that may require process changes going forward.
What We Are Looking For
We are deliberately not specifying a financial or accounting background as a requirement. What matters most is the following:
Strong analytical mind — someone who enjoys working through complex, messy data problems and finding the logic buried within them.
High numeracy and comfort with large datasets — you need to be confident handling and querying significant volumes of transaction data.
Independent thinker — you will be given the brief and the access; we expect you to define your own method and drive this to conclusion without being managed closely.
AI-fluent — you should be actively using AI tools (e.g. Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot or similar) to support data analysis, pattern recognition and documentation. This is not optional; it is how we expect modern analytical work to be done.
Clear communicator — you will need to produce written outputs and engage with a third party in a professional, credible manner.
Organised and methodical — given the complexity of the data, rigour and documentation discipline are essential.
Nice to Have
Prior experience in financial reconciliation, intercompany accounts, or dispute resolution.
Familiarity with fintech, utilities, or regulated payment environments.
Experience working with Python, SQL, or data tools (Excel at expert level is also fine).
What We Offer
A clearly scoped, self-contained project with genuine impact.
Direct access to stakeholders and data — no red tape.
Competitive day rate, commensurate with experience.
Flexible working arrangements within the requirements of the engagement.
