Financial Controller
Build the Financial Engine. Strengthen the Communication. Enable the Growth.
Renewal by Andersen is the full-service replacement division of Andersen Corporation — a 125-year-old brand and the most recognized name in windows and doors in North America.
In British Columbia, Renewal by Andersen is operated by the Dunn Group — known for aggressive growth, operational discipline, and a world-class customer experience.
We are scaling.
And we are looking for a Financial Controller who will not only strengthen financial controls — but also elevate communication, clarity, and alignment across the organization.
The Opportunity
This is a senior leadership role.
As Financial Controller, you will serve as the financial voice at the leadership table — translating numbers into insight, aligning departments around performance, and ensuring Finance is not operating in isolation.
We are specifically looking for a Controller who excels at:
Communicating financial performance to non-financial leaders
Building strong relationships across Sales, Production, Operations, and Ownership
Creating transparency around margin, cost control, and cash flow
Driving accountability through clear reporting and dialogue
You won’t just report results. You will create alignment around them.
What You’ll Own
Strategic Financial Leadership
Act as a trusted advisor to ownership and executive leadership
Provide forward-looking financial insight to support growth decisions
Build scenario models to evaluate expansion, hiring, and operational capacity
Clearly communicate risks, margin trends, and opportunities
Cross-Functional Communication & Business Partnership (Core Focus)
Serve as the financial liaison between Finance and Operations
Translate financial data into actionable insights for department leaders
Lead regular performance review discussions with internal stakeholders
Improve transparency between Sales, Production, Project Management, and Finance
Drive proactive conversations around margin, job costing, and efficiency
We are looking for someone who can step into operational meetings and confidently explain the financial impact of decisions — in plain language.
Strong communication and influence across internal stakeholders is essential.
Financial Reporting & Governance
Own monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
Ensure compliance with Canadian GAAP and regulatory standards
Lead audits and manage banking relationships
Improve reporting speed, clarity, and usefulness
Operational Controls & Process Discipline
Design and enforce internal controls across purchasing, billing, AR/AP, and payroll
Build structured workflows and standardized SOPs
Identify margin leakage and operational inefficiencies
Improve internal accountability systems
Construction Accounting, Job Costing & WIP
Strengthen project-based accounting practices
Improve job costing accuracy across labour, materials, and subcontractors
Oversee WIP reporting and real-time margin visibility
Partner with operational leaders to address cost variances early
Budgeting, Forecasting & Cash Flow
Lead annual budgeting and rolling forecasts
Manage working capital and cash flow planning
Support lender reporting and bonding requirements
Deliver variance analysis with clear recommendations
KPIs, Dashboards & Performance Visibility
Develop meaningful KPIs across margin, WIP accuracy, AR aging, labour efficiency, and cash flow
Build dashboards that are used — not ignored
Elevate financial literacy across leadership and management teams
Team Leadership
Lead and develop an accounting team of approximately 7–8
Build accountability, process ownership, and professional growth
Improve ERP utilization and automation (SAGE 300 experience an asset)
Oversee payroll and benefits administration processes
What We’re Looking For
CPA designation
7–10+ years progressive finance leadership experience
Strong background in construction or project-based accounting
Deep expertise in job costing, WIP reporting, and margin analysis
Proven ability to build internal controls and scalable systems
Demonstrated success partnering with operations and influencing leadership decisions
Most importantly:
You are a strong communicator.
You do not hide behind spreadsheets.
You engage, challenge, clarify, and align.
You build trust with internal stakeholders and drive performance through visibility.
