Location:  Maamwesying Head Office – Serpent River First Nation or 123 March St. – Sault Ste. Marie

Full-Time Permanent

Salary Range:  $95,224 - $117,113

Who we are? We are a leader in First Nation Health. Our foundation is Indigenous Health in Indigenous Hands. We provide accessible, quality, culturally safe and holistic health care that supports and enhances the wellness of individuals, families, and communities. We work with our 11 First Nation community partners and one Indigenous Friendship Centre in the provision of primary health care, traditional healing, mental wellness and addictions, home and community support services and health promotion services. We have recently been approved as the first Indigenous led Ontario Health Team by the Ministry of Health.

 

The opportunity: Under the direction of the CEO, the Financial Comptroller is responsible and accountable for maintaining the organization’s financial health. Their responsibilities include overall leadership of Maamwesying North Shore Community Health Services’ accounting functions including financial budgets, quarterly financial projections, quarterly budget to actual variance analysis, accounting operations, supervising payroll operations, accountability reporting, banking and cashflow management.

 

The Financial Comptroller also provides financial analysis and advice to senior management on strategic and operational matters and assurance on the accuracy of financial transactions and reports. The Financial Comptroller must provide sound recommendations to management and oversee accounting and finance processes with the goal of enhancing strategic directions of Maamwesying, enhancing the operational efficiency, and optimizing the use of government grants and community funds. The Financial Comptroller will work closely and in collaboration with Mamaweswen, the North Shore Tribal Council Finance Department and Financial Comptroller.

What you need to bring with you:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Economics or Finance is required

3 years of similar work experience is required

Chartered Professional Accountant designation or Certified Aboriginal Financial Manager (CAFM) certification would be considered an asset

Experience in not-for-profit or Indigenous finance and accounting including sophisticated fund and agency accounting, compliance and reporting

Strong Microsoft Excel skills necessary with a strong proficiency in Microsoft Office

Knowledge of Sage or similar accounting systems

Demonstrated ability to provide analysis for strategic financial decisions in operations and capital project planning

Understanding of taxation, payroll, and other business financial aspects

Understanding of International Finance Reporting Standards (IFRS) principles and how to apply them in the organization will be considered an asset

Excellent written, verbal and technological communication skills

Ability to work as a member of a multidisciplinary team environment

Demonstrated ability to prioritize, plan, organize and schedule

High level of critical and logical thinking, analysis, and/or reasoning to identify underlying principles, reasons, or facts

Must have access to a personal vehicle and must have a valid driver’s license

Demonstrated competence in conflict resolution

Membership in a First Nation located in Canada will be considered an asset

Knowledge of First Nations and/or Indigenous communities, practices and culture will be considered an asset

Must be bondable

A clear criminal reference check in a condition of employment

Attention to detail in all areas of work
