Job Description
Financial Accountant (Multi-Entity Operations)
O’Chiese Business & Investment Centre (OBIC)
Location: Central Alberta (on-site, full-time)
Reports to: Corporate Controller
About O’Chiese Business & Investment Centre
O’Chiese Business & Investment Centre (OCBIC) is the economic development arm of the O’Chiese First Nation. We oversee a diverse portfolio of Nation-owned businesses across Central Alberta, including energy and contracting services, retail, hospitality (hotel and casino), and professional services.
Our mandate is to build strong, well-governed businesses that create long-term economic value for the Nation and its members.
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Financial Accountant to join our growing Finance team during an important phase of transformation. This is a hands-on, operational accounting role with responsibility for full-cycle accounting, month-end close, reconciliations, reporting, and compliance across multiple entities.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys being close to the business, bringing structure to complexity, and improving processes in a multi-entity environment. You will work closely with the Corporate Controller, business leaders, and internal teams to ensure accurate, timely, and reliable financial information.
Key Responsibilities
Own full-cycle accounting for assigned OCBIC entities
Prepare journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end close schedules
Manage AP, AR, invoicing, payments, and employee expenses
Perform bank and balance sheet reconciliations
Support financial reporting, variance analysis, and management reports
Assist with budgeting and forecasting processes
Prepare audit schedules and support CRA and internal compliance requirements
Maintain accurate financial data in accounting systems (e.g., Sage, QuickBooks)
Contribute to process improvements, system migrations, and standardization efforts
What Success Looks Like
Month-end close is accurate, timely, and well-controlled
Financial records are reliable, well-documented, and audit-ready
Business leaders receive clear, practical financial insights
Processes are continuously improved and standardized across entities
Strong working relationships are built across OBIC businesses
This Role Is a Strong Fit If You:
Have owned full-cycle accounting and month-end close, not just supported it
Are comfortable working in operational, multi-entity environments
Enjoy improving processes and bringing clarity to growing organizations
Prefer working on-site and being connected to day-to-day operations
Value collaboration, accountability, and long-term impact
Qualifications & Experience
Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
CPA designation or active progress toward CPA is strongly preferred
5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in operational or industry-based environments
Experience in retail, grocery, hospitality, contracting, energy services, or other high-volume businesses is a strong asset
Demonstrated experience with full-cycle accounting, reconciliations, and financial reporting
Experience supporting audits and CRA compliance
Proficiency with Excel and accounting systems (e.g., Sage, QuickBooks)
Strong attention to detail, organization, and follow-through
Clear communicator able to explain financial information to non-financial colleagues
Respect for Indigenous culture, governance, and community business practices
Why Join OCBIC?
Work across a diverse portfolio of businesses - no two days are the same
Be part of a finance transformation, not a static environment
Make a meaningful contribution to Indigenous-owned enterprises
Collaborate with a supportive Finance team committed to improvement and growth
Opportunity to deepen technical expertise and grow toward senior or controller-level responsibilities
