Field Operations Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining complex systems in a fast-paced field operations environment.

Job Description

Anduril Industries is a defense technology company with a mission to transform U.S. and allied military capabilities with advanced technology. By bringing the expertise, technology, and business model of the 21st century’s most innovative companies to the defense industry, Anduril is changing how military systems are designed, built and sold. Anduril’s family of systems is powered by Lattice OS, an AI-powered operating system that turns thousands of data streams into a realtime, 3D command and control center. As the world enters an era of strategic competition, Anduril is committed to bringing cutting-edge autonomy, AI, computer vision, sensor fusion, and networking technology to the military in months, not years.

As a Field Operations Engineer, you will support the deployments of Anduril’s leading edge Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs), run demonstrations, support customer deployments, sustain field hardware, feed operational lessons back to engineering, and ensure Anduril autonomous systems deliver mission outcomes in operational environments.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Write, review, and execute simple and detailed test plans for development, integration, factory, and sea testing.

• Oversee Autonomous Underwater Vessel (AUV) operations, monitor vehicle performance, sensor data, and mission progress in real-time. Address technical issues promptly and implement contingency plans to maintain mission continuity.

• Gather, analyse, and interpret data from AUV operations to inform test point progression and design and development to enhance AUV capabilities.

• Co-ordinate AUV launch and recovery evolutions, execute day-to-day test operations, and write daily operations and test reports

• Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, repair and upgrades of AUVs in the field, operating the maintenance management system

• Prepare for field deployments by identifying, sourcing and kitting AUV (Autonomous Undersea Vehicle) test and support equipment

• Support Defence customer deployments, providing outstanding operating support. Understand their needs, gather feedback, and advocate for their requirements within Anduril, serving as a technical liaison between customers and internal teams.

• Support development, review and trials of Standard Operating Procedures and user documentation for all aspects of AUV operations

• Support the development of comprehensive mission and test plans, considering route optimisation, environmental conditions, and risk mitigation to achieve desired outcomes.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• B.S. in Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical field

• 5+ years experience of working within a team of multidisciplinary engineers and specialists through integration, test, verification, and demonstration efforts.

• Proven leader and manager with the ability to master a technical system and support it in austere environments. Must demonstrate an innate drive to be self-sufficient across the breadth of a technical system.

• Strong aptitude for problem solving in unstructured situations at the interface of hardware, software, and networking. Ability to drive challenging and vague technical problems to clarity and resolution.

• Naturally inquisitive, able to independently research and learn new technical components or concepts.

• Ability to obtain and maintain a NV2 security clearance.
