Job Summary:
The Oil & Gas Field Mechanic – Bakken Operations is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of heavy-duty diesel and oilfield equipment supporting North Dakota Bakken operations. This role operates in demanding field environments and extreme winter conditions to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient equipment performance.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Inspect, diagnose, maintain, and repair heavy-duty diesel and oilfield equipment, including compressors, generators, and support equipment.
Perform maintenance and repair on hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and fuel systems.
• Conduct preventive maintenance and routine inspections according to company and OEM standards.
• Perform winterization and cold-weather preparation of equipment for sub-zero North Dakota conditions.
• Respond to field service calls and conduct emergency repairs at remote well sites.
• Operate service trucks and utilize diagnostic tools and equipment.
• Complete maintenance documentation, work orders, and inspection reports accurately and on time.
• Maintain tools, equipment, service vehicles, and work areas in a clean and safe condition.
• Work collaboratively with operations personnel, supervisors, and maintenance team members.
• Comply with all company safety policies, procedures, and environmental regulations.
Required Skills & Abilities:
Demonstrated experience working with diesel engines and heavy industrial equipment.
• Ability to work safely and effectively in extreme cold-weather conditions.
• Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred or willingness to obtain.
Education & Experience:
Basic
High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a diesel or heavy equipment mechanic.
Demonstrated experience working with diesel engines and heavy industrial equipment.
Education & Experience:
Preferred
Technical or trade school certification in Diesel Technology or Heavy Equipment Mechanics.
• Previous oil & gas or Bakken field experience.
• OEM training or certifications (CAT, Cummins, Detroit Diesel, Allison, etc.).
Physical Requirements
The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job (but are not limited to). The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, or crouch for extended periods of time, unassisted. The incumbent must wear a respirator when required. Manual and finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination sufficient to operate industrial machinery are required. This job also requires a full range of body motion to include handling and lifting. The incumbent must repeatedly lift and/or move up to 65 (SIXTY-FIVE) pounds unassisted. Visual acuity, hearing, speaking, reading, and writing must be adequate to perform all required tasks safely.
Work Environment
The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Work is usually done outdoors and sometimes at a client facility or job site and is frequently performed in inclement and/or extreme weather conditions. The incumbent is exposed to moving electricity, mechanical parts, vehicles, equipment, and hazardous materials. This position regularly requires long work hours and frequent weekend work.
