Job Description:
The Field Applications Technician is an office or remote position ~75% of the time and field based ~25% of the time. The purpose of this position is to support customer sites during construction with product related questions or issues. If you like fixing simple to complex problems, this is the career position for you.
This position will be responsible for identifying field items and corrective actions for: customer installation, quality and/or documentation. Customer facing skills are required with: Owners, prime & secondary Contractors (Superintendents & Foreman) and Field Workers (with Superintendent or Foreman present).
This is accomplished by supporting the Nextracker (NX) Project Management (PM) team with quick resolution for Owners &/or Contractor’s remediation items. You’ll provide on-site technical support where they are Construction Managers (CMs), have not had a CM or where the NX CM is no longer at a specific site.
You’ll primarily coordinate with the Manager, Field Applications and at times are expected to work collaboratively with NX cross functional leadership as needed, including: other applications team members, tooling, quality, project engineering (assigned to project support), product managers, mechanical engineering, document management (technical bulletins, installation manual and other document reviews) and supply chain. There will be occasional engagement with other Nextracker teams: safety, human resources (HR), and et. cetera.
Here is a glimpse of job roles and responsibilities:
Travel to customer sites ( up to 25% of the time )
Evaluate compatibility of various Nextracker products and components
Supervise or Train on correct NX Tracker installation
For Applications Technical support on all NX Tracker systems
Evaluate field related issues to determine root cause
Installation error – construction deviation reports (CDR); or
Supplier quality – non-conformance reports (NCR)
Troubleshoot tooling or Teams with NX Tooling department for live support, only as needed (without NX Tooling support on site)
Applications Team – Document Review
Foundations including NX Anchor and OJJO
Installation manuals
Engineering documents
Construction sets
Technical bulletins: work collaboratively with Document Management to create and/or edit Technical Bulletins with NX Engineering approvals to support quick response to jobsites under construction
Develop reports on overall installation of tracker and components
Identify opportunities for tracker installation improvements and value engineering
Analyze and suggest areas for value engineering to provide the most ideal solutions
Review and respond to Request for Information (RFI) (50% time)
Lead and/or participate in PowerworX training in EU region
Here is some of what you’ll need (required):
B.S. Mechanical Engineering or extensive field knowledge for mechanical trackers
5-10 years of mechanical / structural engineering experience in solar trackers, PV panels, or other ground mounted solar tracking systems or applicable technology
Self-motivated, independent, technical aptitude and excellent interpersonal skills
Comfortable in a dynamic atmosphere with a rapidly expanding customer base and product offering
Strong presentation skills and ability to communicate professionally verbally, in writing and with presentations
Proven ability to solve complex problems
Documentation skills (know or learn):
NX Applications including: Box, Arena, NetSuite, UltiPro, Workday, Confluence, Sky Trust & new applications as developed
Travel requests (approved by Manager prior to bookings) & booking your own travel (flights, rental car, accommodations) to Project sites through Egencia

Prior field leadership role(s): Applications, Superintendent, Construction Manager, Field Engineering, Quality Superintendent/Manager
Structural load testing and validation
Designing and constructing ground-mounted solar racking systems (fixed or tracker)
Preference will be given to Nextracker mechanical, field, build experience
