Family Supports Coordinator

Location: #200 12308 111 Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta             

Closing Date: February 18, 2026, or until suitable candidate found         

Position Status: One (1) Full-time (40 hours/week) Permanent Position 

The Otipemisiwak Métis Government is recruiting for a Family Supports Coordinator within the Children and Family Services Early Learning Program. Reporting to the Family Supports Supervisor, the Family Supports Coordinator organizes and delivers caregiver-focused programming, including province-wide playgroups and initiatives that support Métis caregivers in their roles. This role focuses on building caregiver capacity through culturally grounded programs that strengthen knowledge, confidence, and connection to Métis culture and community. The coordinator works to bridge connections between caregivers by creating opportunities to expand peer support networks and shared learning across Alberta. Working collaboratively with internal teams and community partners, the coordinator ensures programming is accessible, inclusive, and reflective of Métis values and family-centered approaches.

Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, coordinate, and deliver culturally grounded Family Supports programming for caregivers, including province-wide playgroups and caregiver-focused initiatives.

Develop and contribute new program concepts and resources that build caregiver knowledge, confidence, and skills using innovative and community-informed approaches.

Coordinate opportunities that connect caregivers with one another to strengthen peer support networks across communities.

Work collaboratively with other coordinators and team members to co-deliver programs and support consistent implementation.

Manage program timelines, schedules, and deliverables to ensure efficient and responsive delivery, including, but not limited to, monitoring participation, outcomes, and caregiver feedback, to support continuous improvement and program refinement.

Identify opportunities to enhance and expand Family Supports programming through innovation and community-informed approaches.

Build and maintain positive relationships with Métis caregivers, communities, and internal and external partners. Collaborate with the Child & Family Services communications team to support program-specific communications, outreach, and resources.

Support logistical planning, materials coordination, and budget tracking for Family Supports initiatives.

Ensure programs and activities meet safety, accessibility, and quality standards.

Provide regular updates, documentation, and recommendations to the Family Supports Supervisor and/or Manager.

Participate in and support the overall strategic direction of the Children and Family Services department and Otipemisiwak Métis Government.

Other duties as required or assigned.

Skills & Competencies

Knowledge and understanding of Métis culture, values, history, and contemporary community contexts.

Strong program coordination and facilitation skills, with the ability to design, deliver, and support Family Supports initiatives from implementation to evaluation.

Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment, contributing ideas, supporting co-workers, and sharing responsibility for program delivery.

Culturally responsive, compassionate, and respectful approach when working with Métis families, communities, and colleagues.

Excellent interpersonal skills, with an ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with internal teams and external community partners.

Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and database applications. Meticulous records maintenance skills and excellent attention to detail.

Strong sense of ethics, with the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality in all interactions.

Superior written and verbal communication skills, including professional email etiquette and the ability to contribute to clear program documentation, reports, and resource materials.

Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and follow-through.

Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities.

Strong conflict resolution skills.

 

Qualifications

Post-secondary education in Early Learning, Human or Social Services, or related field (equivalent experiences will be considered).

Two to three years’ experience in a similar role is an asset.

Experience developing and coordinating programs, resources, or initiatives from concept through implementation and evaluation.

Indigenous Awareness Training is an asset.

Other Requirements

Position is based in Edmonton; in-office presence is required.

Ability to work a regular schedule of Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM.

Must be willing to travel within Alberta and work irregular hours, on occasion, as required.

Reliable transportation and a valid Class 5 Driver’s License.

Acceptable attainment of a Police Information Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check and an Intervention Record Check.
