ABOUT THE ROLE
Under general supervision, the Family Support and Wellness Specialist provides support to families that have or are at risk of being involved with Child and Family Services, provide community education, prevention and parenting resources, require general parenting support, or are experiencing barriers to wellness as a family. This will include finding resources that are required to maintain having children in the home well as fostering reunification, supporting paperwork and documentation that is required for this, advocating for the rights of the parents as well as running parenting programs and support with other staff in the addictions and mental health department. This position is a leave replacement, Projected end date December 31, 2026.
DUTIES
Provides support, advocates to maintain family units, advocates for satisfactory solutions to family problems, liaises with related service agencies, and explains the child and family service system.
Coordinates with Fort McMurray Child Family Services to support parents and ensure that goals are in line with what parents have in their CFS case plan.
Ensure that FMFN band members are fully aware of their rights.
Liaises with community services, including but not limited to, Fort McMurray CFS, supporting departments in FMFN, Youth Counsellors, Health Promotion Facilitator, NAADAP, Mental Health Programs and visiting professionals to assess client(s) and develop a case plan.
Coordinates case management conferences with all community services involved to monitor client’s Plan of Care and share progress as needed
Uses Jordan’s Principle and supports community members that require funding through the program. Completes the applications and submits them to Jordan’s Principle once complete and follows up with families.
Compiles all relevant case-related information and documentation including case plans, updates and reports as needed.
Ensures client files are maintained and updated on a regular basis.
Meets regularly with direct supervisor to gain support and approval on files.
Performs data collection, and submission of reports to the manager, including monthly statistics
Initiates gathering of information or compilation of information gathered previously.
Thoroughly reviews client files and treatment plan.
Performs other related duties as required.
KEY REQUIREMENTS:
Diploma in social work or equivalent education is required. A bachelor’s degree is preferred
Three (3) to five (5) years of progressive experience in child services, human services, or social services.
Experience in advocating and seeking out resources for the benefit of parents and families.
Experience in developing and providing parenting supports for clients in need.
Experience working with Indigenous people, organizations, and communities.
Experience in a First Nations community is a definite asset.
