The Facilities & Building Services Technician is responsible for the safe, efficient, and continuous operation of building systems within a 24/7 hospital environment. This role ensures critical infrastructure, including HVAC, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire life safety systems, are maintained to the highest standards. The technician plays a key role in supporting hospital operations, regulatory compliance, and emergency response, with an emphasis on Fire Life Safety coverage.
Key Responsibilities
• Operate, maintain, and repair HVAC, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and building systems.
• Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance to ensure uninterrupted hospital operations.
• Respond to and troubleshoot system failures, alarms, and emergency situations.
• Support Fire Life Safety operations including coordination during fire alarms, drills, and emergency events.
• Interface with FDNY and other regulatory agencies as required.
• Maintain accurate records of work orders, inspections, and maintenance activities.
• Collaborate with internal departments and external vendors to ensure timely completion of work.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, FDNY, and hospital safety standards.
• Participate in a rotating schedule to support 24/7 facility operations, including weekends and holidays.
Required Qualifications
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 3–5 years of experience in facilities, plant operations, or building maintenance in a healthcare or similar environment.
• Strong working knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and system schematics.
• Demonstrated ability to respond effectively in emergency situations.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Preferred Certifications (FDNY)
• T89 Fire Life Safety Director (must obtain within 12 months of hire).
• P99 Low Pressure Oil Burning Boiler.
• S12 Sprinkler Systems.
• S13 Standpipe Systems.
• A35 Air Compressor.
• N98 Fuel Oil Piping and Storage.
• N01 Fire Guard.
• N07 Fire and Emergency Drill Conductor.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in a hospital environment requiring exposure to mechanical systems, noise, and occasional hazardous conditions. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and be available for emergency response as needed.
Pay Range
$23—$25 USD
