FAA Cloud Application Engineer -Mid Level Part Time

A3 Technology, Inc. is seeking a part-time, hands-on cloud application developer/engineer to support FAA research initiatives. This role requires immediate productivity with minimal onboarding and is best suited for an experienced individual contributor who has recently delivered cloud-based applications in regulated or mission-critical environments.

Responsibilities:

Perform gap and functional analyses of proposed NOTAM-related applications.

Design, develop, and test cloud-based applications in the FAA’s research cloud environment.

Implement application logic, APIs, data flows, and user interfaces using Java and/or Python.

Design application architectures leveraging appropriate cloud services with attention to security, scalability, and performance.

Debug, optimize, and secure applications across the full SDLC.

Produce clear, concise technical documentation suitable for research-to-operations transition.

Collaborate with analysts, researchers, and engineers; this is not a management role.

Skills Required:

Hands-on development experience in more than one cloud platform (e.g., AWS and Azure).

Strong proficiency in Java and/or Python for backend application development.

Ability to contribute productively with minimal ramp-up in a part-time role.

Demonstrated experience building and deploying cloud-based applications (not infrastructure-only roles).

Skills Preferred:

Experience developing applications for FAA systems or FAA-adjacent aviation systems (e.g., flight planning, aeronautical data, aviation weather, ATC research).

Familiarity with the NOTAM data, aeronautical information services, or aviation data standards.

Experience developing or testing applications in government research or operational cloud environments.

Recent hands-on delivery of cloud applications in regulated or mission-critical domains.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in engineering (software, civil, electrical, electronic, chemical, industrial, mechanical, aeronautical, avionics, environmental or computer) from a college or university with a degree curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) and 6-10 years related experience OR

Master's degree in engineering (software, civil, electrical, electronic, chemical, industrial, mechanical, aeronautical, avionics, environmental or computer) from a college or university with a degree curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) and 3-7 years related experience.

Additionally, US Citizenship or documented proof of eligibility to work in the US is a must. Upon receiving a conditional offer of employment, candidates will undergo a Government investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for Government clearance. Verification of past employment, education and references is also required. It is imperative that candidates be either a US citizen or a current green card holder with the last 3 consecutive years as a resident of the US.

The salary range for positions is $50,000 to $175,000. This range is provided as a general guideline and should not be interpreted as a guarantee of compensation. Actual salary offers will be determined based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to the specific responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s education, experience, location, knowledge, skills, and abilities. In addition, compensation may be influenced by applicable Federal Government contract labor categories and established contract wage rates.
