Job Title: Extended Day Teacher (Part-Time)
Location: Greater Peace Child Development Center
Hours: Monday–Friday | 2:30 PM – 5:30 PM
Reports To: Center Director
Position Summary
The Extended Day Teacher at Greater Peace Child Development Center provides a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment for preschool-aged children during afternoon extended care hours. This position supports children’s social-emotional development, reinforces learning through play-based activities, and ensures a structured, positive end-of-day experience for students and families.
Key Responsibilities
Child Supervision & Safety
Provide active supervision of preschool children (ages 3–5) at all times.
Maintain a safe, clean, and organized classroom environment.
Follow all licensing, health, and safety regulations.
Ensure proper sign-in and sign-out procedures.
Instruction & Engagement
Plan and implement age-appropriate afternoon activities, including:
Creative play
Arts and crafts
Outdoor play
Literacy and enrichment activities
Reinforce daily classroom learning in a fun and supportive manner.
Support children’s social skills, conflict resolution, and positive behavior.
Classroom Management
Establish consistent routines and clear expectations.
Use positive guidance techniques aligned with center policies.
Communicate behavioral concerns to the Director as needed.
Family Communication
Greet parents warmly at dismissal.
Provide brief updates on children’s afternoon activities and behavior.
Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
Team Collaboration
Work cooperatively with lead teachers and staff.
Attend required meetings and trainings.
Support center-wide events and initiatives as needed.
Qualifications
Required:
High school diploma or GED.
Experience working with preschool-aged children preferred.
Ability to pass background clearance requirements as specified by Alabama regulations.
CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
Preferred:
CDA credential or coursework in Early Childhood Education.
Knowledge of DHR licensing standards and developmentally appropriate practices.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Strong classroom management skills.
Ability to engage children in structured and unstructured play.
Warm, nurturing, and patient demeanor.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Dependable and punctual.
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand, bend, lift up to 30 lbs, and actively engage with children.
Ability to supervise outdoor play.
Compensation
Part-time position. Compensation based on experience and qualifications.
