Position Overview
The Experienced Tower Technician (Cellular Technician I) is an experienced-to-advanced level field technician responsible for performing and leading the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of cellular tower infrastructure. This position works hands-on in the field and often serves as a lead technician within a crew, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with DSI standards and client specifications.
This role requires a high level of technical expertise, safety awareness, and field experience. The technician will work directly with wireless carriers and general contractors to deliver high-quality, compliant cellular installations.
Key Responsibilities
Perform advanced installation, maintenance, and testing of cellular towers, antennas, coax, hybrid cables, and fiber systems
Lead or assist in the construction and upgrading of cellular infrastructure, including foundations, grounding systems, and equipment shelters
Conduct, document, and interpret testing activities such as PIM, sweep, and fiber testing
Perform light electrical work, including AC/DC systems, grounding, and power terminations
Ensure all tower and site work meets or exceeds DSI and client safety and quality specifications
Participate in and lead Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) and daily safety briefings
Mentor and train entry-level technicians in safe work practices and technical skills
Maintain detailed site documentation, photos, testing results, and closeout reports
Operate aerial lifts and safely perform elevated work with minimal supervision
Communicate effectively with crew members, supervisors, project managers, and clients
Minimum Qualifications
1 years of experience in wireless construction or telecommunications
Strong knowledge of tower safety, rigging, and fall protection systems
Demonstrated ability to read and interpret construction drawings and site plans
Ability to safely climb and perform work on communication towers exceeding 300 feet
Proficiency with sweep testing equipment, fiber testers, hand tools, and power tools
Experience operating aerial lifts, trenchers, and small construction equipment
Valid Class D Driver’s License and ability to qualify under DSI’s vehicle insurance policy
Must pass pre-employment drug screening and background check
Must be authorized to work in the United States
Preferred Qualifications
OSHA 10 or 30, CPR/First Aid, RF Awareness, Competent Climber/Rescue, and/or Aerial Lift Safety certifications
Familiarity with wireless carrier standards and specifications (Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, Crown Castle, SBA, etc.)
Basic electrical and fiber optic troubleshooting experience
Proven leadership and mentoring capabilities within a crew environment
Physical Demands
Ability to climb and work at heights exceeding 300 feet for extended periods
Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 75 pounds
Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, reaching, and climbing
Strong balance, coordination, and upper body strength required
Ability to work outdoors in varied and extreme weather conditions (heat, wind, cold)
Visual and auditory acuity sufficient to recognize hazards and perform work safely at heights
