Job Description
We're Looking for Someone Who Knows the Drill
At GCS Group, we don't spend a lot of time explaining what HDD is to our operators — we expect you already know. We're a Red Deer-based telecom contractor with active bore crews running steady project schedules, and right now we have a seat open for an Experienced HDD Driller who's ready to step in and contribute from day one.
This isn't a training role. We need someone who has put real hours behind a Ditch Witch drill, understands ground conditions, and can run a bore with confidence. In return, we offer the kind of work environment that experienced operators actually want — consistent hours, a capable crew, and a company that takes care of the people who perform.
Your Day-to-Day
Execute HDD bores on underground telecom installations from pilot hole through to pullback
Operate Ditch Witch drill equipment across a range of soil conditions and bore profiles
Maintain constant communication with the SubSite locating team throughout every bore
Handle tooling selection, drill string management, and fluid system monitoring
Perform daily rig inspections, routine maintenance, and field-level troubleshooting
Keep accurate bore logs and contribute to site documentation
Work within a tight-knit crew where everyone pulls their weight
Experience & Certifications
Proven seat time on Ditch Witch HDD drill rigs — this is a firm requirement
Hands-on experience working with SubSite locating systems during live bores
Background in telecom, fibre, or underground utility installation strongly preferred
All certifications must be valid and verified before your start date — no exceptions
Valid driver's licence; Class 3 an asset
The GCS Group Package
High-hour schedule on ongoing telecom project work — we don't slow down
Wages that reflect what you actually bring to the rig
Full company benefits
Christmas performance bonus for operators who earn it
Accommodations and LOA fully covered for anyone traveling from more than 100 km out
SAFETY CERTIFICATES REQUIRED
Ground Disturbance Level 2 / Supervisory training (required)
CSTS 2020 training (required)
Valid drivers license, clean abstract
Whmis 2015
