The Times is seeking an executive assistant to support Ezra Klein across his opinion columns, podcast, and coming newsletter. This job will be a swiss-army knife kind of role: It will include assisting Ezra with scheduling and communications and travel, as well as helping him create and run a links-focused newsletter and expand his show and column’s social media footprint.

The ideal candidate will be deeply interested in the topics Ezra covers, omnivorous in their consumption of news and ideas, organized in their approach to operations and logistics, and an excellent communicator and writer. They will be excited to grow and adapt as Ezra’s needs, and those of the department, change. This role enjoys high levels of responsibility and access and confidentiality, discretion and organization are expected at all times.

This is a New York City-based role and while in-office work 4 days a week is expected, that will ultimately be dependent on the schedule for any given week. AI cover letters strongly discouraged.

In consult with Ezra, you will:


Manage the calendar, including vetting, prioritizing and scheduling meeting requests


Book complex travel and make reservations


File all expenses for reimbursement


After publication, post Ezra's work on social media


Manage incoming requests and facilitate pitches for external meetings and bookings


Keep abreast of news and commentary across a wide range of issues


Help manage a links-focused newsletter built around the research that going into the Ezra Klein Show and the column


Handle a heavy volume of requests from internal and external stakeholders including, but not limited to, answering inquiries, resolving problems, and making appropriate referrals


Develop and maintain strong relationships with key contacts of various levels within and outside of the company as well as act as a liaison between Ezra and members of the department


Support in team event planning including, but not limited to, on-sites, lunches, dinners and social gatherings


Maintain a high degree of confidentiality and discretion in regard to all matters and documents


Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world.

Basic Qualifications:


Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience


3+ years of professional experience


Demonstrated ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment


A “no task too big or small” attitude


Excellent written and verbal communication skills


Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, and the ability to take initiative diplomatically and lead efforts as needed


The ability to embrace change at a moment's notice, shifting priorities easily and can manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a deadline driven environment


A passion for news and and a respect for New York Times values, including independent journalism


A deep familiarity with Ezra's work and interests, and with the political opinion space in general

Preferred Qualifications:


Minimum 3 years of industry experience, either providing administrative support for a senior executive or media industry leader or working on editorial


An editorial background with clips of your writing or audio work


Demonstrated facility at posting effectively across various social media platforms

The annual base pay range for this role is between:
$70,000—$85,000 USD

For roles in the U.S., dependent on your role, you may be eligible for variable pay, such as an annual bonus and restricted stock. Benefits may include medical, dental and vision benefits, Flexible Spending Accounts (F.S.A.s), a company-matching 401(k) plan, paid vacation, paid sick days, paid parental leave, tuition reimbursement and professional development programs.
