Context And Mission
Reporting to the BSC Associate Director, the Executive Advisor will serve as ALIA’s Internationalization Expert for Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) will play a key role in shaping and implementing the internationalization strategy of the ALIA initiative across the region. The position involves fostering strategic partnerships, supporting regional engagement, and ensuring the effective adaptation and deployment of ALIA’s goals and activities within the LAC context.
Key Duties
Support the design and implementation of ALIA's internationalization strategy in Latin America, ensuring alignment with BSC's global mission and objectives.
Identify, establish, and maintain strategic partnerships with governmental bodies, research institutions, universities, and industry stakeholders across the LAC region.
Collaborate with BSC researchers and leadership to design cooperation frameworks, joint projects, and funding proposals involving LAC partners.
Participate in and contribute to regional and international events, workshops, and networks relevant to multilingual AI, digital sovereignty, and language technology ecosystems.
Monitor LAC public policies, regional programs, and funding instruments relevant to AI, language technology, and digital transformation.
Adapt and localize ALIA's communication, dissemination, and capacity-building materials to regional languages and contexts.
Support the coordination of regional pilot projects, ensuring consistent implementation and follow-up in collaboration with BSC teams and local partners.
Interface with all relevant stakeholders, including research partners, regional institutions, international organizations, and BSC's internal teams.
Prepare the necessary reports, progress updates, and communication materials for internal use and for presentation to external stakeholders and funding bodies.
Contribute to the sustainability and long-term integration of ALIA's initiatives within LAC by identifying opportunities for continued collaboration and joint investment.
Act as a regional focal point for ALIA in LAC, fostering institutional visibility, knowledge exchange, and alignment between BSC and key regional stakeholders.
Perform any other public affairs or international relations duties assigned by the BSC Associate Director
Requirements
Education
University degree in Computer Science, Telecommunications, Political Sciences or a related field.
Master’s degree in Engineering, Telecommunications, Political Sciences or a related field.
Additional formal training in relevant fields will be considered a plus.
Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
+15 years of proven experience in the management or coordination of international initiatives, preferably involving academic institutions, governments, or international organizations.
Experience with cooperation frameworks or programs in Latin America (e.g. EU–LAC initiatives, Horizon Europe, Ibero-American networks, development agencies, etc.).
Familiarity with research and innovation ecosystems, especially in areas related to AI, language technologies, or digital transformation.
Demonstrated capacity to manage stakeholder engagement and institutional partnerships across diverse cultural and policy contexts.
Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience
Knowledge of public policies and strategic priorities in AI, data, or digital sovereignty in the LATAM region.
Understanding of the EU and international funding landscape for research and innovation.
Experience in preparing reports, policy briefs, or communication materials for institutional or governmental audiences.
Experience organizing high-level meetings, workshops, or events with international participation.
Competences
Fluency in Spanish and English is essential.
Excellent communication, negotiation, and intercultural skills.
Strategic mindset with strong analytical and organizational abilities.
Capacity to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously under tight deadlines.
Strong sense of initiative and ability to represent BSC and ALIA in external forums with professionalism and diplomacy.
Availability to travel internationally within the LAC region and to Europe.
Availability to be physically located in Madrid for the majority of the project’s duration.

The position will be located at BSC within the Directors Department
We offer a full-time contract (37.5h/week), a good working environment, a highly stimulating environment with state-of-the-art infrastructure, flexible working hours, extensive training plan, restaurant tickets, private health insurance, support to the relocation procedures
Duration: Until 30/06/2026
Holidays: 22 days of holidays + 6 personal days + 24th and 31st of December per our collective agreement
Salary: we offer a competitive salary commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the candidate and according to the cost of living in Barcelona

Development of the recruitment process
The selection will be carried out through a competitive examination system ("Concurso-Oposición"). The recruitment process consists of two phases:
Curriculum Analysis: Evaluation of previous experience and/or scientific history, degree, training, and other professional information relevant to the position. - 40 points
Interview phase: The highest-rated candidates at the curriculum level will be invited to the interview phase, conducted by the corresponding department and Human Resources. In this phase, technical competencies, knowledge, skills, and professional experience related to the position, as well as the required personal competencies, will be evaluated. - 60 points. A minimum of 30 points out of 60 must be obtained to be eligible for the position.
The recruitment panel will be composed of at least three people, ensuring at least 25% representation of women.
In accordance with OTM-R principles, a gender-balanced recruitment panel is formed for each vacancy at the beginning of the process. After reviewing the content of the applications, the panel will begin the interviews, with at least one technical and one administrative interview. At a minimum, a personality questionnaire as well as a technical exercise will be conducted during the process.
The panel will make a final decision, and all individuals who participated in the interview phase will receive feedback with details on the acceptance or rejection of their profile.
