ESTIMATOR - RESIDENTIAL & COMMERCIAL RENOVATIONS

Firma Contracting Inc. is a growing western Canadian based contracting company. This is a new position, and we are looking for someone that can ultimately take the estimating lead and work closely with senior management and ownership to determine opportunities that are a fit and develop proposals / quotes.

The Estimator - Residential & Commercial Renovations is responsible for seeking out residential and commercial renovation work and preparing estimates and quotes for clients, all the while ensuring a clear understanding of the project, scope, risks and requirements. The Estimator must follow-up with subcontractors and vendors to ensure that bids are received. The Civil Estimator also assists the Project Management teams in project handoff and startup. Critical for success are the ability to take direction, work independently, manage time effectively, and demonstrate an acute attention to detail.

Duties include (but are not limited to):

Seek out work opportunities and follow up on leads

Manage the estimating process and turn over to the construction team

Assemble accurate, timely and well-organized estimates and new project set-up documents, including construction management, design builds, cost estimates and control budgets

Analyze drawings and specifications and determine potential risk exposure

Coordinate quote review with clients and maintain a good relationship with clients, subcontractors, consultants, vendors and suppliers

Attend site / pre-construction meetings as needed and disseminate project information to the appropriate operations personnel

Complete a site walk-through with clients

Oversee projects during the construction phase.

Complete final walk-through upon completion.

Other duties as required.

Required Skills:

Minimum of 3 years experience of construction estimating

Experience estimating residential and commercial renovations scopes is required

Personable and great at building relationships

Experience and highly skilled in negotiating

Proficient with Microsoft Office (specifically Excel), MS Project and Adobe

Impeccable attention to detail

Experienced in reading plans and specifications

Highly organized and collaborative

Strong communication skills – able to delegate and provide instructions clearly with sufficient detail

Proven leadership capabilities and able to mentor direct reports for advancement

Valid driver’s licence
