The Estimator/Project Engineer provides end-to-end technical and estimating support for an established engineering consultancy. Working closely with Project Managers and senior engineers, this role supports the review of mechanical and HVAC drawings, system validations, quantity take-offs, tender preparation, and documentation management across multiple projects.
• Review mechanical and HVAC drawings, specifications, and equipment selections.
• Assist with HVAC system sizing checks and technical validations.
• Populate and maintain technical data sheets and equipment schedules.
• Assist in preparing and compiling Operation & Maintenance (O&M) manuals.
• Review design documentation against applicable standards, codes, and project requirements.
• Review mechanical documentation against other disciplines, including electrical, hydraulic, architectural, acoustic, and related documentation, to identify scope gaps.
• Support responses to RFIs and RFQs in coordination with Project Managers and senior engineers.
• Maintain accurate and consistent engineering documentation across projects.
• Perform quantity take-offs from construction drawings using Bluebeam or equivalent software.
• Measure and quantify ductwork, pipework, plant, and associated HVAC components.
• Prepare quantity breakdowns and schedules to support estimating and tender submissions.
• Assist in preparing tender folders, schedules, and supporting documentation.
• Organise and manage files and documentation from the estimating inbox and tender pipeline.
• Populate project templates and standard forms accurately and consistently.
• Standardise engineering and estimating documentation in line with internal processes.
• Maintain document control and version consistency across projects.
• Support task tracking and workflow management within Monday.com or similar systems.
• Provide general engineering and project administration support to Project Managers as required.
• Other position-level duties as they arise.
Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, HVAC Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar role.
• Background in HVAC, mechanical services, or building services engineering.
• Strong ability to read and interpret construction and mechanical drawings.
• Demonstrated experience completing quantity take-offs using Bluebeam or equivalent software.
• High level of competency in Microsoft Excel for schedules, quantities, and data analysis.
• Strong attention to detail with a structured and methodical approach to documentation.
• Confident written English communication skills, particularly for technical documentation and email correspondence.
• Comfortable working with repetitive data, templates, and structured processes in a fast-paced environment.
• Exposure to HVAC estimation or tendering processes is desirable.
• Familiarity with Simpro or similar construction ERP systems is advantageous.
• Experience using Monday.com or other task/project management platforms is a plus.
• Previous experience supporting Australian construction or HVAC projects is advantageous.
