Job Description
Title: Estimator
Location: Markham or Ottawa
Company: Heather and Little
Role Overview
The Estimator supports project acquisition and successful delivery by preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates with a strong focus on architectural sheet metal and heritage restoration projects. This role involves reviewing drawings, specifications, and existing site conditions—often on historically significant buildings—to determine labour, material, and equipment requirements specific to traditional materials and specialized installation methods. The Estimator must understand the complexities of working with copper, lead, zinc, and other heritage materials, along with the constraints of restoration work where access, preservation standards, and unknown conditions play a critical role. Estimates must reflect not only competitive pricing but also the realities of skilled labour availability, sequencing, and the care required to preserve original architectural intent. Working closely with project managers, operations teams, suppliers, and leadership, the Estimator ensures that each bid aligns with real-world installation practices, risk factors, and the level of craftsmanship required for both standard and highly specialized restoration scopes.
Success in this role means consistently delivering accurate, timely bids, identifying risks early, and providing clear cost breakdowns that support efficient execution. Over time, estimating accuracy improves through refined pricing data, labour productivity tracking, and alignment with field operations.
