Position Title: Estimator
Department: Operations / Sales
Reports To: Estimating Manager or Branch Manager
Location: Fort Worth
Position Summary
The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate, detailed, and timely cost estimates and proposals for material handling projects. This role supports the sales team and operations by analyzing project specifications, drawings, and customer requirements to determine the materials, labor, and equipment needed. The Estimator plays a key role in helping the company provide competitive bids while ensuring profitability and maintaining strong customer relationships.
Key Responsibilities
Estimating & Proposal Development
- Review project specifications, blueprints, layouts, and customer documentation to prepare accurate estimates.
- Calculate material quantities, equipment costs, subcontractor expenses, and labor needs.
- Develop detailed proposals, quotes, and bill-of-materials (BOM) for material handling systems such as racking, shelving, conveyors, mezzanines, and warehouse equipment.
- Ensure all estimates reflect current pricing, industry standards, and company guidelines.
Project Review & Communication
- Collaborate with sales representatives to clarify project scope, pricing strategy, and customer needs.
- Communicate with vendors and suppliers to obtain pricing and lead time information.
- Work closely with project managers and installation teams to ensure estimates align with actual execution requirements.
Data Management
- Maintain accurate records of estimates, pricing updates, and project revisions.
- Track and update cost databases as material and labor prices change.
- Assist in continuous improvement of estimating tools, templates, and processes.
Customer & Team Support
- Provide technical support to sales teams and customers as needed.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, or conference calls when necessary.
- Ensure all proposals are delivered on time and meet customer expectations.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma required; associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.
- 2+ years of estimating experience, ideally in material handling or related fields.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
- Strong math, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in estimating software, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience estimating racking systems, conveyors, mezzanines, or warehouse solutions.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations and material handling safety standards.
- Familiarity with ERP or CRM systems.

Work Environment
