Estimator – Millwork (Hybrid Role)

First Choice Millwork is a Calgary-based team of about 30 people who take pride in doing great work, supporting each other, and delivering high-quality results for our clients. We are looking for an Estimator to support our team by preparing detailed, accurate and complete project estimates for commercial millwork projects.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, communicates clearly, and takes ownership of their work. Initially, this role is based in our Calgary office. Once you’ve successfully completed your probationary period, we are open to a hybrid role with a minimum monthly in-office commitment.
What You’ll Be Doing
Turn Project Ideas into Clear Plans by:
Reviewing project opportunities and providing input on which ones to pursue
Reading architectural drawings and specifications to complete detailed takeoffs
Preparing accurate estimates including materials, labour, subcontractors, and overhead
Own the Numbers by:
Using estimating software to build clear and reliable cost estimates
Requesting and reviewing pricing from suppliers and subcontractors
Qualifying quotes to ensure they match project scope and requirements
Drive Accuracy and Quality by:
Ensuring all estimates meet required standards (including AWMAC and GIS) and specifications
Identifying risks such as design gaps, constructability issues, or cost concerns
Supporting smooth hand-offs to Project Managers through organized and complete estimate packages
Partner with the Project Team by:
Communicating in a timely manner with architects, engineers, suppliers, and subcontractors to complete change orders and adjustments to estimates.
Driving continuous improvement in estimating processes and team efficiency
What You Bring to the Team
Education + Training: You have a diploma, certificate, or training in construction, estimating, business, or a related field. Trade experience is an asset.
Industry Experience: Experience in estimating, project management, millwork, construction, or a related field is preferred.
Technical Skills: You are comfortable reading drawings and using Microsoft Office and estimating software. Strong math skills and confidence working with numbers.
Attention to Detail: You take pride in getting things right and understand how small details impact the bigger picture.
Communication + Teamwork: You communicate clearly, ask questions when needed, and work well with a variety of people.
Organization + Time Management: You can manage multiple tasks, stay organized, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Growth Mindset: You are proactive, curious, and always looking to improve how things are done.
