Job Description

THE SELECTED CANDIDATE WILL BE OFFERED AN HOURLY RATE OF $19.50.

The Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) protects and promotes the safety and well-being of children and families through child welfare and juvenile justice services and community supports. ACS manages community-based supports and foster care services, and provides subsidized child care vouchers. ACS child protection staff respond to allegations of child maltreatment. In juvenile justice, ACS oversees detention, placement and programs for youth in the community.

ACS' Office of the First Deputy Commissioner (OFDC) plays a significant role in implementing agency goals and carries out ACS' mission to foster a collaborative, community-based, integrated approach to child and family safely, permanency and well-being. The First Deputy Commissioner serves as the Commissioner's senior delegate and represents the Commissioner when necessary. OFDC includes the Nicholas Scoppetta Children's Center (NSCC), Office of Public-Private Partnerships, Office of Equity Strategies, Office of Child and Family Health, Faith-based/HOPE Services, Medicaid Redesign Services, and Parent Advocacy Council. The Office of Equity Strategies (OES) supports work to promote equity and reduce disparity based on race, gender identity, gender expression, and sexual orientation throughout the agency. OES leads agency-wide initiatives and serves as an in-house resource, providing technical assistance on the development and implementation of equity centered strategies. Additionally, OES' Office of Fatherhood Engagement provides expert support and leadership on fatherhood-engagement-informed-practices across ACS divisions. In alignment with the ACS mission statement, OES envisions resource-rich communities where all children, youth and adults flourish.

As an Equity Strategies Engagement Intern, you will support our OES team in day-to-day operations and contribute to long-term projects to promote equity via development and implementation of equity-centered strategies. This internship offers an excellent opportunity to gain exposure to various aspects of the agency, learn how to implement equity-centered initiatives in a government organization. Additionally, as a member of the 2026, ACS Summer Internship Program cohort, you will participate in an enrichment program designed to fully engage students into the ACS and NYC government experience. Internship programming includes professional development workshops, lunch and learns, speaker events, NYC government tours, and networking opportunities.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop Communication:

- Partner with OES to develop communications strategies and materials to educate staff about equity.

- Utilize Canva (or other software) to design communications.

- Disseminate communication materials, as needed.

Conduct Research:

- Collaborate with OES team to identify areas of research and conduct research on identified questions.

Support Events and Training Development:

- Assist with the planning and design of equity-centered events and trainings and provide on-the-ground implementation support on event and training days.

Support Strategy Team:

- Participate in staff meetings by serving as a thought partner who contributes to the development of strategic plans and approaches in support of successful implementation of fatherhood engagement work.

Conduct Community Outreach:

- Meet with fathers and community leaders to understand their perspectives and help support the work of the Office of Fatherhood Engagement.

Inter-agency Collaboration:

- Collaborate with partners at other agencies at the local and state levels to gain their perspectives to inform ACS' equity strategies and fatherhood engagement work.

Learning Outcomes:

- Gain comprehensive knowledge of ACS operations in a high-level setting

- Develop project management skills and experience managing community relations and an understanding of policy compliance

- Enhance abilities in coordinating and executing organizational tasks and events.
