This position will be instrumental in the collection, monitoring, analysis and reporting of environmental data at the Gahcho Kué mine site.  Also critical to this position is the communication of departmental objectives and initiatives to site personnel.  This is term contract position. The successful candidate will be a self-starter with the ability to troubleshoot problems and be capable of working independently and as part of the team.  The ideal candidate is one who is committed to safe work practices and strives for zero harm.

Key responsibilities:
• Collect and prepare environmental samples according to regulatory requirements and following site quality assurance standards
• Field work in a remote sub-arctic environment which may  include heavy lifting
• Support and promote environmental compliance site wide
• Review and maintain department specific operating procedures
• Maintain appropriate records and databases with a focus on continual improvement
• Collect detailed field notes and draft memos, letters and reports as required
• Assist in the coordination of waste management, wildlife management and spill prevention programs
Reporting to the Environmental Coordinator, the role is based within the Safety, Health, Environment, Risk and Training department.   This is a site- based position working a 14 days in and 14 day out rotation.   
 
• Minimum two (2) years of experience in lab and sampling analysis of water, air and soils;
• Experience or familiarity with Federal and Provincial legislation with particular focus towards resource development permitting process;
• Experience with environmental sampling, monitoring and reporting under regulatory mechanism;
• Keen to work outdoors and travel in a muskeg environment during winters and summers; and
• Advanced computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
• Preference will be given to Members of the Deninu Kué, Lutsel K’e Dene First Nation, North Slave Métis Alliance, Northwest Territory Métis Nation, Tlicho Government, or Yellowknives Dene First Nation, followed by non-indigenous residents of the Northwest Territories
Desirable Assets:
• Post-secondary degree or diploma in the field of Environmental Management or Monitoring;
• Knowledge of the environment and natural ecology of the Northwest Territories is an asset;
• Experience in the mining industry with operations at a remote site is an asset; and
• Experience operating and maintaining equipment (snowmobiles, boats and quads) is an asset.
