Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist
Location: Richmond, VA (Spruance Plant)
Position: Full Time
Position Summary
The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist supports regulatory compliance, risk reduction, and the development of a strong sustainability, environmental & safety culture by implementing and monitoring safety, process safety (PSM/RMP) and environmental compliance programs and ensures timely compliance reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and applicable VA DEQ state & local regulations.
- Conduct risk assessments, facility inspections, and job hazard analyses.
- Conduct, lead and maintain EHS audit & systems.
- Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action documentation.
- Manage environmental programs and compliance reporting including hazardous waste, universal waste, recycling, and air/water permits, waste management and EHS compliance plans.
- Develop and deliver EHS training programs.
- Maintain OSHA logs, reporting metrics, and EHS documentation.
- Support emergency response planning and drills.
- Partner with operations, HR, and leadership on safety initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in EHS, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Working knowledge of OSHA/EPA/VA DEQ regulations.
- Experience conducting safety inspections, investigations, and training.
- Strong communication and documentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional certifications (CSP, ASP, CHMM, OSHA 30).
- ISO 14001 EMS (Environmental Management Systems) experience and ISO 9001 systems.
- Background in manufacturing, logistics, or industrial environments.
- Experience with Power Apps & Power BI.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
- Ability to walk/stand in production environments.
- Lift up to 40 lbs occasionally.
- Exposure to noise, chemicals, and temperature variations; required PPE usage.
