Role Profile
The Atlassian JIRA Engineer will be part of the Engineering team An Atlassian Engineer (Jira Engineer) configures, administers, and optimizes Atlassian tools—primarily Jira, Jira Service Management (JSM), and Confluence—to streamline team workflows and improve project management. They customize workflows, manage permissions, integrate tools, and maintain system performance, usually requiring 8+ years of experience, scripting skills, and strong analytical.
This position requires strong knowledge of Atlassian Tools like JIRA, Confluence, Bitbucket.
It also requires knowledge on any one Strategic Portfolio tools like Clarity, Planview and ServiceNow and must have experience in integration of these strategic Enterprise Tooling applications.
This position will be accountable for defining solutions on assigned projects for Enterprise Tooling, documenting the solution, and coordinating with Enterprise Architect team in taking the solution through the LSEG governance processes wherever applicable. The Role will have to work with the Enterprise Tooling Product Owner/s to propose solutions to the requirements.
This position will need to recommend future Atlassian product Roadmap to align strategically with organization’s Enterprise Tooling Framework.
Key Responsibilities
• Administration & Configuration: Install, configure, and maintain Jira and Confluence, including creating complex workflows, custom fields, screens, and dashboards.
• Workflow Optimization: Collaborate with stakeholders to map business processes into Atlassian tools and implement workflow automation to reduce manual tasks.
• System Maintenance: Monitor system performance, perform upgrades, manage user permissions/roles, and ensure the security and reliability of the platform.
• Integrations & Scripting: Integrate Jira with CI/CD tools (e.g., Bitbucket), chat platforms, and other systems using REST APIs, scripting languages like Groovy, Python, or JavaScript.
• User Support & Documentation: Provide technical support and documentation for users and create documentation for tools and processes.
• Strong understanding of the reporting Framework
• Handle L3 support tickets individually with in agreed SLAs.
• Work with LSEG Architecture group in defining potential technology solutions and ensuring adherence to architectural principles.
• Collaborate with business and functional leads to socialise technology projects and obtain cross functional approvals from Legal, Group Risk, Compliance, LCH Ltd/LCH SA,
Candidate Profile / Key Skills
• Workflow Mastery: Expertise in designing and managing complex workflows, including the use of conditions, validators, and post-functions to enforce business rules.
• JQL (Jira Query Language): Advanced proficiency in JQL for creating complex filters, reports, and dashboards.
• Scheme Management: Strong understanding of Jira's architecture, including permission schemes, notification schemes, and issue type screen schemes.
• Jira Service Management (JSM) & ITSM: Knowledge of IT Service Management processes, including setting up SLAs, automation rules, and customer portals
• ScriptRunner & Groovy: Proficiency in Groovy scripting to extend Jira functionality beyond its native out-of-the-box capabilities.
• API Integration: Deep knowledge of REST APIs for integrating Atlassian tools with other enterprise systems (e.g., Slack, GitHub, or internal tools).
• Programming: Foundational skills in Java, Python, or JavaScript (specifically Node.js/React for the Atlassian Forge platform) for building custom plugins or apps
• Agile Proficiency: Solid understanding of Scrum and Kanban frameworks to ensure Jira configurations effectively support development teams.
• Infrastructure & OS: Familiarity with Linux/Windows environments and relational databases (SQL).
• Version Control: Competency with Git/Bitbucket to manage CI/CD pipelines and source code integrations

• Degree in Computer Science or related technical field or equivalent experience

• Good communication, presentation, documentation, and customer engagement skills with proven ability to work effectively with all organisational levels.
• Global experience – working successfully with teams in multiple locations simultaneously.
