The Enterprise Data Architect ensures that data across the organisation is managed in a consistent, secure, and efficient manner. Acting as the custodian of enterprise information, you define where data should be created, mastered, transformed, and consumed across business capabilities. You help establish standards, document data flows, validate information models, and promote coherent architectural practices across the application landscape.
Working closely with product owners, business stakeholders, analysts, and architects, you contribute to building a reliable and transparent enterprise data ecosystem. Your experience strengthens the organisation’s ability to rely on clean, authoritative, and business‑aligned data structures.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic & Architectural Responsibilities
• Translate business strategy into target data architectures supporting long‑term scalability and adaptability.
• Define and maintain the enterprise‑level Business Information Model (BIM), including core entities, relationships, and standardised data definitions.
• Map the BIM to the application landscape to clarify data ownership, mastering, transformation points, and consumption patterns.
• Review existing data architecture and propose improvements aligned with target principles.
Data Governance & Standards
• Assess system‑to‑system data flows to ensure accuracy, consistency, and alignment with business capabilities.
• Maintain modeling and naming conventions, data normalization rules, metadata standards, and data lineage documentation from source to target.
• Promote governance principles and help drive their adoption across teams.
• Document and communicate data architecture standards, enabling coherent data sourcing and sharing practices across applications.
Collaboration & Cross‑Functional Alignment
• Work closely with domain architects to ensure alignment between business processes, information models, and system responsibilities.
• Support teams in adopting modelling guidelines and improving data architecture practices.
Profile & Required Experience
Education & Background
• Master’s degree in engineering, information systems, or other scientific disciplines.
• 5+ years of experience in data architecture, data modelling, enterprise information management, or data warehousing.
Core Skills
• Strong communication skills to collaborate with diverse business and technical stakeholders.
• Ability to create, maintain, and explain modeling diagrams and functional documentation.
• Deep expertise in conceptual, logical, and physical data modeling techniques.
• Experience with MDM, metadata management, data quality frameworks, and governance tooling.
• Ability to design enterprise‑wide canonical models, data domains, and shared data services.
• Understanding of integration patterns including APIs, ETL/ELT workflows, data virtualisation, and streaming technologies.
• Good knowledge of data security and privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR).
Certifications (Assets)
• TOGAF, DAMA, ITIL, cloud certifications (AWS/Azure), MDM frameworks, or enterprise architecture methodologies.
Nice to Have
• Familiarity with sectors operating with complex asset or operational data (e.g., utilities, infrastructure, energy).
• Experience with enterprise architecture tools such as Sparx Enterprise Architect.
• Multilingual capabilities (FR/NL/EN) to support cross‑functional collaboration.
