Engineering Manager (Data Squad)

What’s in store for you:
You’ll be solving complex challenges and maintaining our own infrastructure with 60PB+ monthly data traffic. Here are its scale and maturity in numbers:

- 6PB+ Ceph storage
- 60PB+ monthly data traffic through our systems
- 300k+ service requests/sec processed
- 500k+ Kafka messages/sec streamed

Come lead a Data Squad that sits right on the business heartbeat: you’ll own a platform that directly affects what we ship, how fast we ship, and how reliable our product is. You’ll get real autonomy to set direction, fix pain points, and raise the bar. The scope is meaty: delivery, reliability, team growth, and turning messy priorities into a clear plan that actually lands. If you like building a strong team and making complex systems predictable, you’ll have plenty to do here.

Your day-to-day::
• Lead the squad and keep delivery consistent: run sprint rituals, track progress, and make sure commitments land.
• Own people leadership: hire, mentor, and develop engineers; keep the team healthy and performing. 
• Manage capacity, risk, and dependencies: plan realistically, unblock fast, and handle escalations early. 
• Align scope and priorities with the Product Owner: keep stakeholders aligned and avoid churn. 
• Work in the triad with the TL and PO: support the Tech Lead on technical focus/feasibility, and help build a transparent, high-performing culture (without owning architecture).

Your skills & experience::
• Proven experience leading an engineering team (hiring, coaching, performance, delivery ownership).
• Solid understanding of modern data systems (ETL/ELT, data warehouses/lakes, orchestration, data modeling).
• Comfortable working with data tooling and concepts (SQL, pipelines, monitoring, data quality), even if not a hands-on specialist.
• Strong stakeholder management: can translate business needs into a clear plan and keep people aligned.
• Pragmatic, ownership-driven mindset: can make trade-offs, push standards, and improve reliability without slowing the team down.

Nice to have:
• Experience with high-scale data pipelines (large volumes, frequent updates, strict SLAs).
• Background in platform/data infrastructure (compute/storage optimization, reliability, cost control).
• Hands-on exposure to data quality/observability tooling and setting SLAs/SLOs for data.
• Familiarity with governance/security topics (PII handling, access control, retention).
• Experience working in product-focused teams where data directly powers customer-facing features.

Salary::
• Gross salary: 5000-7600 EUR/month. Keep in mind that we are open to discuss a different salary based on your skills and competencies.
