Position Description: Energy Efficiency Engineer
As an Energy Efficiency Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, implementing, and managing energy efficiency projects, programs and measures aimed at reducing energy consumption and promoting sustainable practices for utilities. This role includes advanced energy modeling and analysis to support both new construction and existing building projects, with a strong emphasis on multifamily housing. The Engineer will develop and review energy models, assess whole-building and measure-level performance, and support program design and optimization through data-driven insights. You will support new construction including design review, code compliance pathways, and collaboration with developers, design teams, and trade allies to influence high-performance building outcomes—particularly in multifamily applications. You will work closely with external and internal teams to support program needs around measure development and engineering review by providing technical assistance. Your knowledge in energy conservation, building systems, and emerging technologies will contribute to delivering exceptional efficiency programs that meet client goals and regulatory requirements
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and review building energy models (e.g., whole-building and measure-level) to estimate energy savings, support incentive calculations, and inform program design.
Technical review of incentive applications, including energy modeling outputs and engineering calculations to validate projected savings.
Provide technical support for new construction projects, including design review, energy code compliance pathways, and performance verification.
Support multifamily program delivery, including analysis of building types, system configurations, and measure strategies specific to low-rise and mid/high-rise properties.
Collaborate with developers, design teams, and trade allies to influence efficient design decisions and optimize energy performance in new construction projects.
Translate energy modeling results into actionable recommendations for program teams, clients, and external stakeholders.
Identify opportunities to enhance program offerings through advanced modeling approaches, emerging technologies, and market insights.
Manage program measure databases.
Work with internal QA/QC teams and external evaluators.
Position Qualifications:
Experience with commercial and residential efficiency equipment (lighting, HVAC, heat pumps, air compressors, motors etc.
Demand side management (DSM) program
The capability to work well in a virtual team setting and provide exceptional customer
Problem solving skills and ability to discover innovative
Self-starter who is highly detail oriented, organized and goal
Excellent verbal, interpersonal and written communication
Microsoft Office applications proficiency: with a focus on excel.
Preferred Skills/Experience:
Engineering Degree from an accredited university and 3+ years experience in mechanical, energy efficiency, HVAC or the utility marketing field.
Experience with energy modeling software – 3+ years.
Experience with energy modeling software aligned with DOE standards, including Ekotrope, REMRate, Trane Trace, IESVE, and tools such as DesignBuilder or OpenStudio (including associated plug-ins).
Experience working on multifamily or new construction programs.
CEM certification, LEED, BPI or other equivalent certifications.
Advanced computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
Knowledge and experience in additional building energy technologies.
Previous home office experience a plus.
