Job Description
Company Overview
Absolute Collagen is the UK’s best-selling liquid collagen supplement and a fast-growing wellness brand operating at the intersection of beauty, health and nutrition.
Founded in 2017 by Maxine and Darcy Laceby, the business has built a highly engaged community of over 60,000 subscribers within a subscription-first, multichannel model. The brand is built around its core platform, Age Powerfully, celebrating confidence and vitality at every stage of life.
This is further brought to life through authentic brand advocacy, including partnerships with ambassadors such as Emma Willis and Katherine Ryan.
Now led by CEO Fiona Hope, Absolute Collagen is entering its next phase of growth, with a continued focus on strengthening its brand, customer experience and multichannel presence.
The business is B Corp certified and carbon neutral, reflecting its commitment to responsible growth. With strong momentum across direct-to-consumer, Amazon and retail, including its exclusive partnership with Boots and backing from Livingbridge, Absolute Collagen combines entrepreneurial spirit with the support to scale.
Why This Role Exists
Email is one of Absolute Collagen's most powerful owned channels and central to subscriber acquisition, retention, and community building. As the brand continues to grow, the quality and consistency of our email communications must match the pace and quality of the brand’s growth.
This role exists to bring specialist design expertise to our email programme, ensuring every email we send is visually stunning, on-brand, and built to convert. Working closely with the Brand and CRM teams, the Email Designer will help us raise the bar on creative execution across our entire email ecosystem.
About the Role
As our Email Designer, you’ll join a collaborative, fast-paced team that values creativity, pace and high standards. You’ll own the look, feel and craft of our email communications – designing experiences that are as intelligent as they are beautiful.
You’ll bring campaigns and end-to-end customer journeys to life, from brief through to send, helping us engage our audiences with clarity, consistency and speed.
With a strong eye for detail, you’ll translate brand guidelines and campaign briefs into compelling email experiences that feel both beautifully executed and distinctly Absolute Collagen.
This is a hands-on production role with genuine creative scope. You’ll work closely with the Head of Brand, CRM and retention teams, and our copywriters to deliver high-quality, optimised email assets on time and to brief.
This role will suit someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys collaborative ideation, and understands that great email design goes beyond aesthetics – it’s about driving conversion, strengthening retention, and telling a story that earns the next open.
Role Impact (12–24 months)
Elevate the visual quality and consistency of all email communications across campaigns, flows and lifecycle journeys
Build a library of reusable, modular email templates that increase production efficiency and brand coherence
Contribute to improved email engagement metrics such as open rates, click-through rates and conversion
Strengthen the brand's premium feel across all owned email touchpoints
Support the growth of the subscriber base through best-in-class creative execution
What Success Looks Like
Emails are visually compelling, on-brand and consistently high quality
A scalable email design system is in place, enabling fast and efficient production
Creative output is driving measurable improvements in engagement and conversion
The Brand team views you as a trusted creative partner who elevates every project
Stakeholders across CRM, Marketing and Brand have a smooth, reliable design process to work within
Key Responsibilities
Design & Production
Design and build email campaigns, automated flows, and lifecycle communications that are visually excellent and on-brand- understanding the constraints and opportunities of each format.
Produce layouts that balance brand consistency with high-performing content hierarchy: clear CTAs, scannable structure, and mobile-first thinking.
Create mobile-first, responsive email templates that render perfectly across all major email clients
Develop and maintain a library of modular, reusable email components and templates, that can be assembled quickly without sacrificing quality.
Translate campaign briefs and copy decks into polished, production-ready email designs
Ensure brand consistency; typography, colour, imagery and tone are standardised across all email touchpoints
Translate messaging into email modules with visual impact
Optimise designs for mailbox-specific nuances - understanding how emails render across Gmail, Apple Mail, Outlook, and others, and making informed design decisions that account for differences in image rendering, font support, dark mode behaviour, clipping thresholds, and the growing impact of Gmail's AI-generated email summaries on how subject lines, preview text, and opening content are surfaced to email subscribers.
QA and test emails across devices and email clients before deployment
Creative Collaboration
Join creative sessions to visually brainstorm ideas in real time - sketching layouts, suggesting content block structures, and contributing fresh creative thinking face to face.
Take concepts from early-stage ideas to tangible design proposals quickly, enabling faster decision-making across the team.
Translate messaging into visual ways to bring concept to life.
Act as a creative partner - not just a production resource - bringing proactive ideas for new treatments, seasonal concepts, and campaign themes.
Work closely with the CRM and retention team to understand the purpose and audience of each email, or the storytelling of each customer journey.
Partner with copywriters to ensure design and copy work seamlessly together.
Collaborate with the wider Brand team on campaign direction, asset creation and visual storytelling.
Optimisation & Testing
Contribute creative thinking to A/B and multivariate testing strategies - proposing design-led hypotheses around layout, imagery, CTA placement, and content blocks.
Analyse test results in collaboration with other members of the CRM team and iterate designs based on performance data.
Stay up to date with what's working across the industry (design trends, accessibility best practice and rendering updates) and bring relevant benchmarks and inspiration into team discussions.
Analyse performance data in collaboration with the CRM team to inform design decisions.
Continuously iterate and improve templates based on results and feedback.
Seamless Customer Journeys
Design emails as part of unified sequences - ensuring visual and narrative consistency across all flows, e.g. welcome series, nurture to purchase, post-purchase, LTV activity (repeat, upsell/cross-sell, subscription conversion), re-engagement, re-activation, and promotional sends.
Think in customer journeys, not individual emails: understanding where each touchpoint sits in the arc and designing accordingly.
Work closely with brand, digital, and creative teams to ensure CRM communications are a seamless part of the wider customer touchpoint experience - not a channel operating in isolation.
Collaborate with the broader CRM team to ensure design decisions support the story we're telling at each stage of the funnel.
Process & Standards
Maintain organised design files, assets and documentation for ease of handover and reuse
Uphold and evolve Absolute Collagen's email design standards and guidelines
Support onboarding of future team members with clear template documentation
Experience & Capability
Proven experience designing high-performing emails for a consumer brand, preferably in beauty, wellness, DTC or subscription
Strong portfolio demonstrating high-quality, on-brand email design across campaigns and lifecycle flows
Strong command of email design best practices - responsive layouts, dark mode considerations, image-to-text ratios, and accessibility.
Proficiency in email design tools (Figma, Adobe Creative Suite or equivalent)
Experience working within or alongside an ESP such as Klaviyo (preferable), Dotdigital, or equivalent.
Understanding of mobile-first responsive design and email rendering across clients
Excellent attention to detail and a high bar for visual quality
Ability to work at pace in a fast-moving environment and manage multiple concurrent briefs / projects.
A collaborative and communicative working style with confidence to contribute ideas in group creative sessions.
Preferable - Working knowledge of HTML and CSS for email - enabling direct template edits, custom module builds, and content testing within Klaviyo.
