Role Overview

Destine Prep is seeking a mission-driven Elementary Physical Education (Lead or Associate) Teacher to support the development of students’ physical wellness, teamwork, and lifelong healthy habits. 

Duties & Responsibilities

Instruction & Student Learning

Planning and delivery of engaging, standards-aligned physical education lessons.

Promote physical fitness, sportsmanship, teamwork, and healthy lifestyle habits.

Provide small group and individual support to students to build motor skills and physical confidence.

May be required to support reading room as well as other subject areas as needed as a substitute. 

Use assessment data to monitor student progress and inform instruction.

Provide daily feedback to students on performance, effort, and character.

Classroom & Environment Management

Maintain safe, structured, and joyful PE environments (gymnasium space, outdoor spaces, etc.).

Ensure proper supervision of students during classes, transitions, meals, and school activities.

Support the organization and care of PE equipment and instructional spaces.

Implement consistent behavior expectations aligned with school culture systems.

Help manage and reduce risk in all physical education settings.

Team & School Support

Receive feedback from leadership and peers to strengthen instructional practice and classroom management.

Provide in-house substitute coverage as needed.

Support the grade team with tutoring, supervision, and schoolwide responsibilities.

Assist with school events such as field days, family events, performances, and trips.

Collaborate closely with grade level teachers, the Culture Team, and school leadership.

Professional Growth

Meet regularly with coaches and school leaders to implement feedback.

Engage fully in professional development, mentorship, and coaching cycles.

Demonstrate a growth mindset and commitment to continuous improvement.

Gradually take on increased instructional responsibility throughout the year.

Family & Community Engagement

Support strong communication with families in partnership with the Lead Teacher.

Participate in open houses, conferences, and family events.

Serve as a positive ambassador for Destine Prep’s mission and values.

Additional Responsibilities

Support advisory/homeroom as assigned.

Perform clerical and operational duties that advance student learning.

Comply with all charter, federal, state, and local regulations.

Perform other duties as assigned by School Leadership.

Education & Experience

Bachelor’s Degree required

Valid NYS Teaching License in Physical Education or willingness to pursue certification required. 

Preferred: holding or pursuing NYS health education certification. 

Minimum of one (1) year working with students in a school or youth setting preferred

Experience in charter or urban schools preferred but not required

Ability to work occasional evenings for school events

Physical Requirements

Frequent standing, walking, and active movement during PE instruction

Ability to lift and move up to 20 pounds

Ability to safely demonstrate physical activities and monitor active students

Must be able to access all areas of the school building and outdoor spaces
