Job Description
This is not an entry-level estimating seat. Our client is a well-established, full-service electrical contractor based in the Greater Detroit area with nearly five decades of work behind them and a new chapter ahead. Under recently installed ownership — a leader who came up through the ranks of the business itself — the company is focused on growth, and that means winning more of the right work. They operate across commercial, healthcare, and industrial sectors, with capabilities spanning electrical, data and telecommunications, fire alarm, HVAC controls, and solar. If you're an electrical estimator who has owned large bids — $5M, $10M, $20M — and knows how to build a number that wins without giving the job away, this is a compelling place to do that work.
What You'll Own
• Lead the full estimating process on commercial and industrial electrical projects ranging from $5M to $20M+, from initial takeoff through final submission
• Analyze bid documents, drawings, and specifications to develop accurate, competitive scope and pricing
• Solicit, evaluate, and level subcontractor and supplier quotes; build out complete cost models with appropriate contingency and margin
• Coordinate closely with project leadership during bid development to ensure constructability and alignment with field execution capabilities
• Maintain an organized bid calendar and manage multiple concurrent estimates without losing detail or accuracy
• Build and sustain relationships with GCs, owners, and procurement contacts in the Detroit market
• Track bid outcomes and contribute to continuous improvement in win rate and pricing strategy
• Support project handoffs to operations teams when work is awarded, ensuring clean scope transfer
Requirements:
• 5+ years of electrical estimating experience with a demonstrated track record on projects in the $5M–$20M range — this is a firm requirement; candidates without large-project bid experience will not be considered
• Deep knowledge of commercial and/or industrial electrical systems, materials, and labor productivity standards
• Proficiency in electrical estimating software (e.g., Accubid, Trimble, ConEst, or equivalent)
• Ability to read and interpret full electrical construction documents, including single-line diagrams and specifications
• Strong working relationships with electrical distributors, manufacturers, and subcontractors in the Michigan market — a plus, not a requirement
• Organized, deadline-driven, and able to manage a heavy bid load without sacrificing quality
• Michigan electrical background preferred; familiarity with local GC relationships in the Detroit metro is a meaningful advantage
Benefits:
• Benefits details to be confirmed with client
• A genuine opportunity to be a key player in the growth strategy of a company with deep market roots and new leadership energy
