We're looking for an Electrical Engineering Student Assistant to join our Opto-Electrical Engineering team in Copenhagen, Denmark, to work on the development of quantum processor manufacturing technology.

Job Description

We’re on an exciting mission to build the next-generation foundry for quantum processor manufacturing - and we are looking for an Electrical Engineering Student Assistant to join our Opto-Electrical Engineering team.

Do you want to be a part of pioneering quantum computing in a world-class quantum ecosystem in the heart of Copenhagen? Quantum Foundry Copenhagen, owned by the Novo Nordisk Foundation (NNF), is aimed at developing next generation Quantum Computing Processor technologies.

Our mission is to establish a foundry capable of manufacturing quantum processor units (QPUs) employing novel methods to meet the extreme requirements for purity and precision needed to bring Quantum Computing to scale.

About us

Our company is part of a vibrant and growing Danish quantum ecosystem, and we collaborate closely with world-leading researchers at Novo Nordisk Foundation Quantum Computing Programme (NQCP www.nqcp.ku.dk) based at the Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen. The NQCP Programme is designed to facilitate and drive research and innovations at multiple levels – from developing materials and quantum processor technologies through solutions for the quantum-classical control and readout interface, and all the way to quantum algorithms and applications.

In close collaboration with NQCP and international partners, we aim to pioneer chip-based fabrication and packaging methods for state-of-the-art quantum processors.

Join our team

We are looking for a motivated and hands on student assistant to support the assembly of electrical control cabinets and assist with PLC programming tasks. This role is ideal for a technical student who enjoys practical work, learning by doing, and gaining real world experience with industrial automation systems.

You will work closely with engineers to build, wire, and test small electrical cabinets, participate in system bring up, and contribute to PLC related development tasks. You don’t need to be fully experienced - curiosity, reliability, and willingness to get your hands dirty are more important.

As our new Electrical Engineering student assistant, you’ll become part of the OptoElectrical Engineering team - a group of four colleagues who collaborate across projects. You’ll be part of an environment where practical experimentation, hands on learning, and cross-disciplinary problem-solving are part of everyday life.

The role is part time, with an expected commitment of 15–20 hours per week, and offers a flexible schedule that allows you to balance your work and studies.

Professional and Personal Qualifications

You work carefully and methodically, with strong attention to detail and the ability to follow technical instructions. You are reliable, safety minded, and comfortable working independently when required. A genuine interest in automation, robotics, or embedded systems will help you thrive in this role.

You are preferably early in your studies (bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant field) with at least one year remaining, and your qualifications and experience may include:

Essential qualifications for the role:

• Basic understanding of electrical safety (e.g., safe handling of low voltage equipment)

• Familiarity with basic electrical circuits and components (e.g., relays, sensors, DINrail modules)

• Some experience with coding (C/C++, Python, or similar)

• Comfort with hand son mechanical/electrical work such as wiring, stripping cables, assembling panels, etc.

Preferred but not essential for the role:

• Experience with PLC programming (TwinCAT, Siemens TIA Portal, or similar)

• Knowledge of industrial communication protocols (Modbus, EtherCAT, IOLink, etc.)

• Experience reading electrical schematics or cabinet layout drawings

• Familiarity with control cabinet standards (e.g., DINrail components, cable management best practices)

• Basic experience with test equipment such as multimeters, continuity testers, or oscilloscopes
