ROLE DESCRIPTION

Form Energy is hiring an Electrical Engineer to join our Test Infrastructure team. In this role you will be responsible for the design and delivery of test equipment that enables the execution of critical tests across our iron-air battery systems and supporting hardware. The scope of your work will range from simple electrical characterization setups to complex automated systems managing airflow, electrolyte handling, high-power distribution, hydrogen management, control systems, etc.

A key focus of this role will be supporting the design of test equipment for verification campaigns of our battery management system (BMS) hardware and firmware. This includes designing and building test infrastructure for both individual PCBAs tests and system-level integration tests focused on functional, reliability, and compliance testing.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

- Design, build, and deploy custom electrical test equipment supporting battery and ancillary hardware testing.

- Develop test systems ranging from benchtop setups to fully integrated automated machines.

- Architect and implement test equipment for BMS verification, including bench-level functional test setups, hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) systems for firmware and controls algorithm verification testing, reliability test beds, and compliance/certification test beds.

- Collaborate with firmware, hardware, and test operations teams to define test infrastructure requirements and translate them into practical solutions.

- Specify and integrate sensors, instrumentation, data acquisition, and control systems into test equipment.

- Contribute to the software development of test beds, including control, automation, and data acquisition functionality.

- Ensure equipment designs meet safety, reliability, and compliance standards for high-power and hazardous systems.

- Document test system designs, usage guidelines, and validation procedures.

- Support troubleshooting, maintenance, and continuous improvement of deployed test infrastructure.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING:

- BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.

- 3+ years of experience in electrical design and/or test equipment development (battery or energy systems experience is a plus).

- Proficiency with eCAD tools for PCB, control panel and harness designs.

- Proficiency with mCAD tools for fixture designs.

- Experience developing hardware-in-the-loop or automated test systems.

- Familiarity with BMS architecture, communication protocols (CAN, SPI, I2C, etc.), and firmware test methodologies.

- Hands-on experience with sensors, power electronics, data acquisition, and control systems.

- Strong understanding of safety and compliance considerations in high-power and/or chemical environments.

- Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to balance speed, rigor, and safety.

- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment.
