We pride ourselves on listening deeply, responding quickly, and delivering efficient, reliable, and cost-effective systems. Our work supports community development and enhances everyday life through thoughtful engineering.

About the Role

Design Works Engineering is seeking a Electrical Engineer to play a key role in the continued growth of our Grande Prairie office. This is an exciting opportunity for a professional who excels in delivering high‑quality electrical designs while providing technical direction, mentorship, and oversight to a growing team.

The Electrical Engineer will act as a technical authority and project leader, overseeing complex building and subdivision projects from concept through construction. Perform and review load calculations, short‑circuit and coordination studies, and system sizing.

Design lighting layouts, lighting control systems, and photometric studies.

Lead the design of fire alarm, life safety, emergency, and standby power systems (UPS and generators).

Prepare grounding, bonding, heat trace, and communications system designs.

Municipal & Subdivision Electrical Design

Lead the design of low‑ and medium‑voltage distribution systems for subdivisions and large land development projects.

Oversee streetlighting, distribution pathways, and communications network layouts.

Coordinate with the City of Grande Prairie, telecom providers, and other authorities having jurisdiction.

Contribute to feasibility studies, servicing reviews, and electrical planning for new communities.

Coordination, QA/QC & Documentation

Review and stamp electrical drawings, specifications, and construction documents.

Ensure deliverables meet internal QA/QC standards and client expectations.

Coordinate closely with civil, structural, mechanical, and architectural teams to deliver integrated designs.

Support energy audits, feasibility studies, and code compliance reviews.

Construction & Client Support

Provide senior technical support during construction, including shop drawing reviews, RFIs, and site visits.

Lead client meetings and act as a trusted technical advisor.

Deliver practical, buildable solutions aligned with project budgets and schedules.

Mentorship & Team Development

Mentor and support junior designers and EITs through technical guidance, review, and coaching.

Contribute to building and strengthening the Grande Prairie electrical team.

Support continuous improvement of electrical design standards, tools, and processes.

What You Bring
