The Electrical Engineer – Advanced Development for our Technology and Advanced Development department is responsible for the design, integration, and qualification of complex electronic hardware systems supporting these novel technology development efforts. The role emphasizes high-reliability design and technical leadership for in-space computing systems. The engineer provides technical direction and works closely with other engineering functions to ensure electrical system architectures meet performance, safety, and mission assurance standards.
The position reports to the Vice President of Technology Development and is part of the Technology and Advanced Development department based in El Segundo, CA. This role is onsite and/or hybrid based in El Segundo, CA.
In this role, the essential functions are:
• Derive and document circuit board requirements from system/top-level requirements.
• Create schematic drawings for complex high speed Printed Circuit Board Assemblies (PCBAs).
• Create functional and design specifications
• Layout and/or guide the layout of printed complex Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs).
• When/where needed, assist with manufacturing of complex PCBAs.
• Work with signal integrity, mechanical, power during board design and testing
• Develop printed circuit board assembly test plans and procedures to assure that performance meets specifications.
• Validate the design; troubleshoot and test complex circuit boards.
• Provide system integration and test troubleshooting support
• Be able to meet aggressive/accelerated schedule deadlines.
• Support internal and external design and development gate reviews with related documentation.
• Support customer meetings.
• Participate in proposals and trade studies, including evaluating contractor and subcontractor proposals for technical feasibility.

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science
• 7+ years of experience designing high-speed printed circuit boards
• Solid understanding of digital logic, signal integrity, power circuitry, and high-speed PCB design and simulation techniques
• Experience with FPGAs/PLDs, Ethernet PHYs, High-speed Memories, PLLs, voltage regulators, Switching etc.
• Knowledge of computer and system architecture
• Experience with board simulations working knowledge in processor, DSP and associate interface
• Experience in a project from bring up through production ramp
• Experience in creating/reviewing validation/diagnostic test plans
• Experience with developing tests and debugging in the lab
• Excellent communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
• Five years of Analog and Power experience preferred.
• Ability to perform layout of printed circuit boards preferred
The good faith base salary range for this role is $135,000–$185,000 at the time of this posting. Where you fall within the range depends on your experience, skills, and location. This range reflects base salary only and does not include benefits or bonus/incentive. This range may be adjusted in the future.
