About the Role
The Electrical Designer will be based out of our Vancouver office and will be responsible for developing electrical design details and integrating them into the working drawings, preparing construction documents for clients, completing site reviews and attending meetings. We are looking for someone with consulting experience who wants to work in a collaborative team environment with a mentor to develop their technical skillset. The designer in this role will focus on electrical systems for mixed-use, office towers, and institutional facilities.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Work under the direction of Project Managers to develop construction document packages and reports
Assist lead Engineers with planning, studies, and assessments
Conduct site reviews to determine and document existing conditions
Prepare engineering studies and design calculations such as feeder sizing, voltage drop, overcurrent protection, fault current, lighting calculations, etc.
Layout electrical equipment and wiring devices, branch circuiting, lighting design, life safety systems, communication systems, and security systems
Preparing electrical design mark-ups for the drafting department and coordinating electrical package production
Liaise with utilities for new services
Oversee construction and commissioning process, and prepare documentation such as field reports, change orders, and shop drawing review
Liaise with Architects, Interior Designers, and other professionals.
Other duties assigned as necessary.
Familiarity with the Canadian Electrical Code.
Experience using AutoCAD
Knowledge of industry-specific codes and standards (ASHRAE, BCBC, NECB, etc.).
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering (B.Eng.) or Technology diploma or trained electrician (Red Seal).
Two to five years of experience in consulting specifically in the building industry with electrical projects.
Qualification
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:
Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and various other construction documentation.
Strong communication skills to coordinate with clients and other disciplines (Architectural, Mechanical, interior design, etc.)
Ability to quickly absorb and use company-specific techniques, standards and procedures
Familiar with building codes, electrical codes, fire alarm standards, ASHRAE and LEED requirements
Familiar with new development projects and tenant improvement projects
Familiar with electrical design requirements for different types of sectors from mixed-use, healthcare, office towers, and institutional
Familiar Experience with short circuit and fault study software is a great asset
Working toward P.Eng will be preferred
Ability and desire to work within a team environment
Organized and able to prioritize various tasks and have a flexible approach to assignments
Willingness to meet quick deadlines and handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
Self-starter who can work independently as well as on a team
Working Experience with the following software would be a great asset: Revit, AGI32, ETAP, SKM, PV system modelling.
Working experience with AI platforms, such as Copilot, would be a great asset.
Compensations: $65,000 – $78,000 (depending on experience)
