Job Title: Electrical Design Engineer
Location: Richmond, VA
Job Type: Contract to Hire
Pay: $80,000 – $120,000
Position Overview
We are seeking a driven Electrical Design Engineer to support the development of reliable and high-performance power distribution equipment. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to both new product development and ongoing engineering support, while collaborating across multiple teams in a dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities:
• Perform electrical design at the product level, including component selection, thermal considerations, mechanical packaging support, and interconnection design
• Apply knowledge of analog/digital circuits, magnetics, and thermal systems
• Develop technical specifications for power protection and distribution equipment
• Design switchboard power and control systems
• Create and maintain engineering documentation such as schematics and bills of materials (BOMs)
• Support integration of third-party components into electrical systems
• Assist with manufacturing documentation, testing procedures, and technical reporting
• Provide ongoing engineering support for both new and existing products
• Troubleshoot electrical systems and subsystems in a hands-on capacity
• Assist with product compliance and safety certifications (UL, CSA, IEC standards)
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE)
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in electrical design and development
Preferred Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering (MSEE)
• Experience with UL 891 switchboard design
• Familiarity with ECNs, BOM management, documentation systems, AutoCAD, and ERP platforms
• Experience using electrical test equipment (oscilloscopes, network analyzers, signal generators, etc.)
• Knowledge of three-phase power systems and electrical distribution
• Strong technical writing, documentation, and communication skills
• Hands-on lab experience with strong troubleshooting abilities
• Familiarity with UL, CSA, and IEC safety and EMC standards
• Understanding of environmental, reliability, and safety requirements for industrial and commercial systems
