Educational Assistant
Term: Full-time – Contract
26/27 School Year
Salary Range: $36,204 - $71,152 (Depending on education and experience)
As an Educational Assistant (EA), you will play a key role in students' lives, supporting teachers in creating a positive learning environment, often with a focus on students with special needs.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist with lesson preparation, materials, and the integration of technology. They may work with individual students or small groups, providing extra help, reinforcing concepts, and adapting materials to meet the diverse learning needs of their students.
Help maintain a structured and safe learning environment, reinforcing classroom rules and managing student behavior. They supervise students during transitions, lunch, and recess, ensuring their safety and well-being.
Assist with record-keeping, grading assignments, tracking attendance, and other administrative tasks as directed by the teacher.
Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other professionals to support student learning and well-being. They communicate observations and concerns to teachers, participate in team meetings, and may assist with parent conferences.
Work with students with disabilities, providing individualized support based on Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and other support plans. They may assist with physical and personal care needs and may be trained to administer medications or specific medical procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High school Diploma plus a 2-year post-secondary education in fields related to the development of children and special education (i.e., Educational Assistant Diploma, Child & Youth Worker Diploma).
OR
College Diploma/Degree in Developmental Service Worker (DSW), or Early Childhood Education (ECE), or Autism and Behavioural Science would be an asset.
At least two (2) years of work experience in a related field, including working with children with special needs.
Working knowledge of Individual Education Plans, Behavior Safety Plans & Behavior Management
Valid First Aid and CPR (or willingness to update).
Experience working within an Indigenous education system would be an asset.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Knowledge of Indigenous culture, traditions, and language (or willingness to learn).
Excellent problem-solving, multi-tasking, and collaborative skills; and Excellent interpersonal skills.
Strong computer skills using a variety of platforms and devices (Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Smartboards, iPads, etc.).
Must provide a clear Police Vulnerable Sector Check upon hire.
