Title: Education Program Officer
Reports to: Manager, Youth Services
Position Type: Contract, 35 hours/week for 8 weeks
Salary: $19.00/hour

Location: Kingston
Position Summary
The Education Program Officer supports Program and Outreach efforts. In this role the Education Program Officer will work on site to assist the organization and facilitation of programs designed to support youth facing barriers. They assist in engaging youth in activities by providing a safe, focused, and a positive learning environment. The program and outreach support position will also support our summer outreach efforts for incoming grade 9 students coming into the program.
This position offers the opportunity to contribute to community food security initiatives, including programming garden activities and a farm share partnership where students learn about healthy and sustainable food sources. The role also supports and nurtures students’ interests in Arts, Culture, and Recreation through engaging and inclusive programming. This position is funded by the Canada Summer Jobs Program.
Key Responsibilities
Program and Outreach Support
Open and set up program rooms at different sites
Help program support workers run summer programs
Keep track of attendance, logs, and program materials
Collect and safely store program supplies and return items when needed
Build positive and respectful relationships with youth participants
Support planning and running programs based on youth interests and needs
Help with food programs like gardening and farm share activities
Assist with Arts, Culture, and Recreation programs to encourage creativity and participation
Support the Outdoor Academy program, including activities like hiking, camping prep, and learning about nature
Help with outreach by connecting with and registering new Grade 9 students
Support youth by listening to their needs and helping solve challenges during programming
Communications & Teamwork
Meet with staff regularly to stay organized and understand schedules
Join team meetings and training sessions
Work as part of a team to handle challenges or emergencies
Keep your supervisor and team updated on any issues with participants or programs
Help with the team’s social media (posts, ideas, sharing updates)
Use creative ideas to help connect with youth and promote programs
Help collect information and feedback about programs
Organizational Responsibilities
Comply with all relevant legislation and KCHC policies, including privacy laws
Commits to acquiring an understanding of the importance of trauma responsiveness and the impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs)
Commits to demonstrating an ongoing commitment to Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, Indigenization and Accessibility (EDIIA) by representing the diverse nature of our communities, promoting and practicing inclusion
Supports consistent application and development of KCHC policies and procedures
Supports KCHC’s student and volunteer placement programs
Promotes awareness of and participation in KCHC activities
Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and quality improvement
On occasion, perform other temporary duties as required
Basic Education and Experience Requirements
High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
Education and experience related to education or working with youth
Experience working with diverse groups of people
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Strong oral and written communication skills
Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to being a “team player”

Be aged between 15 and 30 years old on the start date of the job based on Canada Summer Jobs hiring criteria
Be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident of Canada, or a person who has been granted refugee status in Canada. International students and other temporary residents of Canada are not eligible based on Canada Summer Jobs hiring criteria
Current and satisfactory Criminal and Vulnerable Persons Check
Ability to meet the physical demands of the position
Other languages including French an asset
CPR/1st Aid training an asset
Valid Driver’s License, Driver’s Abstract and proof of vehicle liability insurance an asset
