THE SELECTED CANDIDATE WILL BE OFFERED AN HOURLY RATE OF $19.50

The Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) protects and promotes the safety and well-being of children and families through child welfare and juvenile justice services and community supports. ACS manages community-based supports and foster care services and provides subsidized childcare vouchers. ACS child protection staff respond to allegations of child maltreatment. In juvenile justice, ACS oversees detention, placement, and programs for youth in the community.

ACS' Division of Family Permanency Services (FPS) strives to ensure children and youth in foster care receive high-quality services designed to help them achieve permanency, remain safe while in care, and improve their overall well-being. Within FPS, the Office of Youth Success Services (OYSS) works cross-functionally with ACS' juvenile justice, prevention, and child protection teams to achieve positive safety, well-being and permanency outcomes for children and families in the child welfare system through the provision of education, workforce readiness, job placement and housing supports.

OYSS' Education Unit assists child welfare professionals in their efforts to provide personalized and holistic educational supports to children and families at all levels of involvement with the child welfare system, including services to prevent system involvement. Whether a child is entering school for the first time, transitioning to a new grade level, or needs additional educational support, the unit provides guidance and connections so caregivers, staff, and young people can make informed decisions' is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Education Engagement & Communications Undergraduate Intern to join our Education Office.

Key Responsibilities:

Communications & Resource Management

- Collaborate with Education Office staff to assist with producing a comprehensive and themed newsletter

- Develop content to share policy updates, professional development opportunities for caseworkers/ education specialists, and developmentally appropriate resources for youth

- Assist with tracking key school system deadlines and application periods to ensure staff stay informed, and expand capacity of providers to connect students with critical educational milestones

- Support caregivers and professionals with accessing tools and information needed to champion the educational needs of the youth they serve

Content Archiving & Organizational Strategy

- Assist with leading a content organization project to archive Education Unit presentations and materials from previous forums into an intuitive and user-friendly format

- Utilize tools such as Airtable to compile and categorize resources developed by and for ACS staff to ensure institutional knowledge is accessible and digestible

- Contribute to streamlining how education partners across various divisions will access training materials and historical data moving forward

Learning Outcomes:

- Gain experience creating tracking systems and managing multiple tasks independently to meet deadlines

- Develop strong written and verbal communication skills while coordinating with team members and interagency leads

- Support wellness programs and office functions, enhancing skills in event planning

PREFERRED SKILLS

- Experience with working in a fast-paced environment independently and as a member of a team
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Proficient in Airtable (or similar relational databases) to organize, tag, and archive educational resources
- Ability to create user-friendly interfaces and "views" that allow staff to easily navigate historical training materials
- Experience with email marketing platforms or design tools (e.g., Mailchimp, MS Suite or Canva) to produce visually engaging, themed newsletters
- Demonstrated interest in the intersection of child welfare and educational equity, particularly regarding system-impacted students

As of June of the Program year the prospective intern must be a student matriculated in a college or be a recent college graduate (winter/spring term of the Program year).
NOTE: Appointment to this title is only valid for the duration of the Program, June - August each year.
